against. Walls keep people in too.
Yes
I live in El Paso Tx, right on the border. Not having a wall kills people! The drugs being smuggled in by simply walking across is staggering! But it goes both ways, guns are illegal in Mexico, we are smuggling guns into Mexico. Wall is good for both countries and a good investment in the future.
pro building a wall around Trump. I will help pay for it. Mexico probably would as well.

Border security is important. The Wall will not provide it, and will drain resources that could be used more productively.
Except no one has yet defined how those resources can be used more productively for border security purposes. I hear vague references to drones and “technology “ but what exactly will that accomplish? We will see them crossing through with the drones, we’ll see them escaping, but we won’t stop them nor apprehende them.
If there’s an alternate plan by all means let’s hear it and evaluate it, but a simple no to a wall won’t suffice for me. Sorry
I have children and grandchildren.
This country needs population growth, and the economy needs more laborers. Immigrants begin a large number of start ups that fuel economic growth and jobs.
We still want border security. The wall Trump wants is not the most effective or cost-efficient way to do it. And the actual cost will be many multiples of the cost he claims.
You don't have any details of wall construction or cost, either.
Crossings are down, outflow exceeds inflow, and you want to spend $70 billion plus for a wall? Trump is playing politics, not border security.

Agree. I am against the wall. It is not the most effective way to secure the border.

Why are drugs illegal in the greatest free country in the world? Drugs arent evil. Its just evil people using then wrongly. Just as with guns

Not an efficient way to use money
I appreciate this thread and the intelligent and civil arguments from both sides.

Contrary to people who claim that the wall is a waste of money, I think the wall could be a cost-efficient way to help secure our borders.
We'll know if the wall is working if the price of illegal drugs rises after its completion. Drug prices should rise if the wall curtails supply of it in the States, while at the same time increases the cost of transporting it to the States. Smugglers will increasingly turn to supply the States via boats up the CA coast and to all points along the Gulf of Mexico. Even with this substitution of delivery method into the States, we should see the cost of illegal drugs increase after the wall.
