Hey all, new to the board here, but I’ve been a runner now since 1991. Since then I’ve always ran 5 or mostly 6 days a week, and always about 15-22 miles or so total with higher totals when training. While I’ve ran half marathons in the past, I’ve always gone up too fast on speed work or distance runs, wind up having some kind of hip or, mainly, IT band issue that sets me back in training but I still run and finish the race in good time but usually doing further injury. I think this has always been because I didn’t stick to the program and go up slowly.
Anyhow, I am now 48, still running about 3.6ish miles a day, six days a week. I’m planning on running a half marathon in late April. For this first time in my running life, I’d like to take it slow and stick to schedule. This being said, right now I run 6 days a week and nearly every training plan I see mostly calls for 2 days off per week or 1 day a week off plus 1 day a week of cross training. I don’t enjoy cross training and being a long time runner, really depending on that run per day, I also don’t want to dial back to a 5 day a week plan with two days off. I’d rather find a training plan with 1 day off per week. I’m surprised by how difficult this is to find. Can anyone offer help?
