Never saw a teacher give up a Saturday to go in and teach an extra class or two......teachers who coach track/xc are there on Saturdays on a regular basis.
I do. It’s a credit recovery program to help kids graduate.
I teach at a rough school. The kids come in with a hard shell but you quickly realize they are just kids. To deem them unworthy in 6th grade to further their education is flat out wrong. I do think if they flunked out the first 2 years of HS and there is no chance of graduating then they should go to another school. Many I think would choose that route anyway.
But why don’t they? I’ve long held the belief that welfare is not for the poor, it’s for the government and the rich. Without it there would be more crime and uprising. Sadly school has become a way to just keep kids off the street. More than a few of my students have told me they are only there because their parole officer makes them or they’ll get locked up.
I’ve worked in the lab and hated it. I enjoy teaching science but like any other job there’s days I wish I didn’t.
While I think ADA & politics are the real driving force there is some good in keeping kids in school. Diverse thinking is good for the workplace and putting a bunch of old white people who think the same results in stagnation (i.e Sears or the Senate). You need culture & oposite genders in the room.
