You are completely incorrect regarding calories. Poorer people consume more calories. The problem is that West Virginia is poor just like the southern states which all have terrible distance runners. the wealthier states are thinner and better distance runners.
Why are you insisting that West Virginian poverty is ‘better ‘ than urban poverty? The poster you replied to didn’t say that urban decay was any different or better.
As someone who grew up in rural poverty, it’s also bad...trust me. While we didn’t have gangs or random shootings, opioids, meth, domestic violence were rampant, as well as obesity. It’s a poor environment for kids to develop into mature adults, let alone athletes.
New Mexico does more with a similar size population. Probably the altitude and culture.

I'll answer that question for you. I'm pointing out the seeming hypocrisy here. Folks on LR are insanely quick to point out poverty in WV, yet total poverty is WV is a grain of sand on the beach compared to the poverty, desperation, despair, drugs, murder and education quality right in LR poster's own backyard.

Carl Hatfield ran in four Olympic trials, from 5k to marathon was an All American in cross country in late 60s while at WVU and later ran with Florida Track club.
And yes hes part of the Hatfield clan.

Having been from Kansas, I can testify it is flat AF. Sure there are a few bumps like that in that photo, but overall it is very flat. Apparently it is flatter than a pancake.

The reality is West Virginia has a lot of windy, two-lane, asphalt roads into and out of most towns. Few shoulders and not safe to run on.
