Often the "elite" field of the Houston marathon (and others I think) will include locals who have run somewhat fast times (for locals).

Walms for the win. Sub 60 for sure.
Half marathon fields are more interesting than the marathon fields, which look to be dominated by the second-tier Ethiopian marathoners who do not get into the Dubai marathon.
However, there is Kara Goucher in the women's marathon field, so I am curious about that. According to her IAAF and ARRS profiles, this will be her first race as a 40+ runner, and her first marathon since the 2016 OT. Has only raced once since then.
Patrick Tiernan in the half field, very interesting.

It also helps if you have a 2:16 full pr

In addition, there are some guys who will run under 1:05 who aren’t in the Elite field.

How does Tiernan only have a near 1:04 half PR?? Did he run South Shields in combat boots? Was he down with a flu?

Mean while Leonard Korir who has similar PRs at the 5000m/10000m has broken 60 minutes.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Essau_KorirWalmsley is a shoo-in for the win. He won the Western States 100 miler so you know he has much more endurance than anybody else.
Is this gonna be televised??
Karoki, Osaka, Kitata, wow!
Wasn't Jake Robertson meant to be returning to defend his title from last year?
The half marathon fields are some of the best out there. Awesome.
Going to be hard for Walmsley to win this thing since he isn't even on the elite entry list....
Walmsley Schmamsley

That is super interesting. Is anyone else surprised that he has moved to the roads and half? Or is he still primarily on the track?

I believe he is having issues with his lower leg.
