Given that she is likely past her peak in the 1500, could she move back to the steeple for 2020? I think she'd run at least mid 8:50's and be a clear medal contender. Her time as a medal contender in the 1500 could be about over.

She has a better chance of making US team in the 1500. She could run 9:10 which may not be fast enough. Her PR us only 9:12.
He p.r. is 9:12 when everyone else in the US was running 9:30's or slower, and that was before the majority of her 1500 success. I have little doubt that she would beat Coburn handily. I think she's at least a mid-8:50's runner...and her kick would be lethal.
Bump. I think she would have a good chance at winning the Olympic title at the steeplechase.
My knee jerk reaction to this question was no. However, her performances did slip a little bit this past track season. I think we'd see a move to the 5k over the steeplechase if she decides to alter her plans.
Zero chance
Jenny is a career miler. Pretty good at 3000, and long ago at steeple. But this woman is a miler.
Look at the record, the medals.

lolz @BigRed
https://www.nbcsports.com/video/2018-drake-relays-jenny-simpson-breaks-american-two-mile-recordyep she is "pretty good" If she trained for it she would be the immediate favorite...She is the best 3000-3200 woman in American history...She has a huge speed advantage over Courtney and Emma and better endurance...
This has been raised many times. Jenny has said (jokingly) that she would move back to the steeple for $5M. She's not going back to the steeple. All events are not created the same. The 1500 pays better even if she is not as good as she used to be. She still has a good chance to make national teams in the 1500. Unclear in the steeple. At this stage of her career it's better to protect her legacy rather than change events.
Jenny may need to move from the 1500 to the steeple as Colleen Quigley moves from the steeple to the 1500.
NO!
Not now, perhaps a few years ago when she was in 1500 PR shape and the US women weren't running in the single digets. The U.S. has 2 women capable of running 9 flat which is way faster than Jenny ever ran and in a year or two, I expect Colleen Quigley to be in the 9 flat range as well. Btw, all of 3 of these women are several years younger than Jenny, whereas Jenny is in the twlight of her career, the aforementioned ladies are just entering their peak.
Jenny’s still got it in the 1500. Look at her 4:17 mile, her sixth 5th Ave Mile title, her 4:00 sb, her US runner-up. The only reason she was overshadowed this year was that Shelby Houlihan had one of the greatest seasons in US history, male or female.
That said, I wish she’d run a serious 5000m. I bet she could challenge Shelby’s AR. I’d be more interested in seeing her run that instead of the steeple.
Yes. Simpson was second at nationals this past season. This is a GOOD result. It's not bad at all. She's clearly better than any other U.S. 1500 runner except Houlihan. She finished tied for 5th with Houlihan in the Diamond League point standings. She had a very good season.
Another problem with changing events: it's not entirely up to the athlete. For example, if Simpson wanted to enter a Diamond League meet, it's 100% likely the meet promoter would want her in the 1500 where she's won multiple medals, rather than in the steeple where she has absolutely no pro credentials. If Simpson insisted, the promoter might relent but she would probably have to take a steep pay cut.

to do anything in the steeple she will need to close just as fast as she would need to in the 1500. so if she is losing speed what would be the point?
Jenny Simpson will move back to the steeplechase when Michael Norman moves up to the 800, Noah Lyles switches to the long jump, and Kipchoge stops running marathons to focus on World XC.
Gold's out of the question with Beatrice in the event, if that kind of shape continues at big testing events like World's, but this is an 8:29 3k runner who would break 9 in the steeple.
My guess - If the Caster CAS decision is won by IAAF then it will be Castor to the steeple and then no way Jenny would goto the steeple, if CAS is lost, Caster would continue to toy with the 1500m and there becomes a compelling reason for Jenny to move events.
Jenny belongs in 1500m, I hope the IAAF wins the decision, however CAS appears to be more of a political body rather than having a understanding of sport or science, so I therefor am skeptical.
She is a better fit for the 5k.
The muppets on here were saying she should be sticking with the steeplechase when she first moved to 1500.
No more reason to do it now. She's was a miler then abs still is.
