Excellent advice! And don't forget your postitive affirmations:
"Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better"

Don't trust random posters who are anonymous.
They could be 40-year-old men living in their mom's basement. They have "fun" by making "jokes" to attack you.
Read some running books at the library, listen to your coach, and follow real athletes in college.

I have been running for right at 3 years and have just gotten my 5k time down to17:15. I thought that was pretty good, but I unfortunately listened to someone who suggested that I check out this site for some good training advice. Yeah, right. Instead I found out that I will never be anything more than a lowly “hobby jogger.” I’m done. Time for a new sport.
Hobby jogging is a term runners use to try to devalue your running ability because you may or may not be competitive. I used to get offended by it but now I don’t care what others say. Unless they are willing to say it to my face, their words don’t mean anything. It’s very narcissistic for others to say their running ability has more value just on the basis of running faster. The elites are way more humble, it’s only those in the middle that feel they need to trash talk those below them. I’ve been running for almost 5 years and can maybe break 18, so relative to me at least your time is really good. You can leave the site but don’t give up running unless you are doing it to impress others.

These boards are more toxic than a poison arrow frog, bathing in battery acid drinking petrol. There is no need to take anything seriously. Just focus on your own goals and keep your head down. Enjoyment is the main thing.

Running depends on your locale . I’ve run 15:00 and couldn’t crack the top 15 at a local road race. In another city I ran 16:45 and was worshipped like a living God. 17:15 might be great in your locale. If so, that’s all you need. Winning in 14:30 is the same as winning in 17:15.

Especially anonymous trolls who start threads called "LetsRun has ruined running for me. Thanks a lot.".

Don't let cyberbullying affect you in real life. It's just useless vitriol from keyboard warriors that pop up on a computer screen.
With a time of 17:15, you should go to Reddit or RunnersWorld forum or anywhere else and people will worship you like an Olympic god.
So true ---- says the guy who's being worshipped as an Olympic god at Reddit and RunnersWorld.
I'm tempted to leave this site to go to reddit or runnersword instead. I get bullied so much here and don't get enough respect and people agreeing with me. Girls on chatrooms seem to really like me but are far away. Maybe my soulmate is on runnersword or reddit.

I thought running world forum was shut down.

0/10. The last two sentences gave you away.

Is it still shut down?
No one likes a quitter, a doper, a cheater, or a whiny hobby jogger.
Everyone likes a winner, a honest runner, and a good looking wheelchair athlete (from waist up, of course), and mostly a sublime, smart, and funny troller.
S.O.S.W.P.
Reads like a troll, but 3 years to 17:15 doesn't mean you're close to a lifetime peak. Sub 16 should be the next goal and it is very doable for someone in the position you describe. Up the mileage to 80. Workout with better runners than you in a club or ask a local D2 or D3 college coach to let you do workouts with his guys. Really hit two workouts a week. When you hit 15:50s, your new goal becomes sub 5 pace, then sub 15, not for the respect of all the people here, which is utterly unattainable for anyone in the world but for the love of the sport and the accomplishment.

OP here. Had to shorten my cumbersome handle. But that sounds like good advice. Many thanks.

If going to letsrun ruined running for you then you were just looking for an excuse to quit running. Also try not to be as soft as ten-ply toilet paper.

Piss-off Cathy
I don’t know how I get so many impersonators! Trolls pay the bills, stirring up content for free. Life’s for learning.
