Oswald was interrogated by the police on several different occasions for over 15 hours before he was assassinated (two days after he was caught), and was questioned by the press. But apparently he didn't have enough time to say who was setting him up to be a patsy?
If I had the resources of the CIA or Cuba, I would have planned the assination of JFK as follows:
1) I have contracted for a world class sniper, armed with the best possible rifle. He would have been accompanied by a team of 3-4 people.
2) Along the route, a vacant building or one sparsely occupied would been used. If there were occupants I would have them tied up.
3) A getaway car would be available and they would have switched to another car a few miles later.
4) I would possibly have had the assination team killed later on.
Instead:
1) The conspirators used a nut job who might, or might not, have been an accurate marksman and had him use a rifle that cost $20 and that could be traced to him.
2) Oswald shoots from the building where he works that had 150 employees. Employees rememembered him carrying a bag that could have contained a rifle and Oswald was quickly identified as being the shooter.
3) There was no getaway plan and he was almost arrested inside the building.
Oswald rode a bus, took a taxi, returned to his home and and then left to walk around aimlessly.
4) Had Jack Ruby, a night club owner, "silence" Oswald. There was no way they could have known that the DPD would announce when they would move Oswald to the jail and that there would be no security. And how could they possibly believe Ruby would not disclose the plot?
5) They expect Oswald to miss or maybe not even shoot at all, so they place a second shooter behind the picket fence. There could have been other people hanging around , it was an akward shooting position, there could have been spectators blocking the shot, the target would have moving from left to right and there was a good chance they could have hit Jackie as well
Oswald claiming to be a "patsy" is meaningless; suspects often lie and if he was a "pasty" how was he tricked into bringing a rifle to work? He was interrogated by the DPD so how could they be certain Oswald wouldn't have immediately disclosed the plot?
As other posters have noted, it would have been impossible to keep such a fiendish plot a secret for all these years. I read Vincent Bugliosi's extremely thorough and detailed book which addresses and completely debunks "evidence" cited by conspiracy theorists. A simulation based on the Zapruder film shows that the shots lined up to 6th floor window.
Finally no logical motive exists. If it was unraveled and it the CIA, those involved would have been executed. If it was the Cubans, it would have triggered an invasion.
