This made me laugh. Thank you. Anyone who loves bad movies with bad acting must see "The lonely lady". Great scene where a naked Pia laying on a pool table takes an 8 ball in the Pia pocket.

Somebody was dissing Tom Cruise who I generally detest, but he was brilliant in Magnolia, and he delivered the greatest performance on film of all time with his short role in Tropic Thunder.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it... :-)
Oh, and the correct answer must be Charlize Theron. Beautiful and brilliant!

Deanouk,
I agree that Vivian Leigh's performance as Blanche Dubois was incredible. I read years ago that she was married to Laurence Olivier when she played that role and that she was suffering from some form of mental illness at the time. I think she was institutionalized. It was that serious.
I did see Camille Claudel and The Story of Adele H. One Deadly Summer is one of my favorite movies. You seem to like foreign movies. Have you seen Antonia's Line, Tokyo Story, Lower Depths or Mediterraneo? They're all great.
Vivien Leigh was bipolar and had Electro convulsive therapy on and off for many years. They had no idea how to treat it in those days. Strangely, another great beauty from the same era, Gene Tierney, also suffered with mental illness quite badly. Vivien also had recurring bouts of tuberculosis, and she wasn’t a good patient, in that she never rested enough in order to recover, probably due to the bipolar condition. And it was TB that killed her in 67 at the age of just 53.
I haven’t seen those films you mention, so will keep an eye out for them, and yes, I do like foreign (World) cinema.
Kevin costner
Nicolas cage
Ben Affleck
Shy lubuff
Pretty sure Oscars for all of them when they make the movie about the best band ever....nickleback!!!

I think Tom Cruise, Timothy Hutton and Sean Penn all peaked, in Taps, 1981.
Add Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, and Jennifer Lawrence
Obviously, this is fairly subjective, so I'll leave it to the experts. Those who've won the triple crown of acting would make the list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_Crown_of_Acting. Excellence in live theater would be a prerequisite for me.
Not every movie actor played on Broadway and not every theatrical actor made movies.
I like the pick of Robin Williams.
The range from Mrs Doubtfire to One Hour Photo.
He played opposite Pacino in Insomnia and carried the movie.
I enjoyed in Cadillac Man as a car salesman.
Dead Poet’s Society and Good Will Hunting were his most critically acclaimed roles.
Garp was a crazy role.
Thought of as a comedic actor but tremendous in dramatic movies.
Talent. Great acting ability.
So much racism in this thread. Not surprising.
Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet as the villain affected me more than any other role ever. Scary and evil.
Lebron James
Spencer Tracy.
Edgar G Robinson.
James Cagney.
On the basis of his very dissimilar parts in "Moonlight" and "Green Book," Mahershala Ali seems destined for greatness.
Regina Hall
Regina King
Regina Taylor

Don't forget Awakening
To me Jack stands above the rest. So convincing but never overacting. His speech in a few good men and the scene going crazy in The Shining are all time classics.
