I am a 44 year old guy who went from 30-35 mpw training for 2016 LA Marathon to 60-88 mpw before 2017 Chicago and then 90-120 mpw last 8 weeks before 2018 Boston and 80-110 mpw for last 12 weeks before 2018 NYC and I am currently running 80-110 mpw training for 2019 Tokyo. So I Increased my mileage to 90 mpw average (during the marathon training cycle) over about 2-2 1/2 years.
So what is your current Marathon PR?

I do recognise that this will take time, hence why I asked on a website where people are known for running high mileage tips on how long it should take. I have bo intention of just diving into 90 mile weeks, I want to do this safely and make running a lifelong passion, but at the same time I want to get fast and reach whatever potential I may still have.
I’m thinking ovr the course of the mext 6 months to a year, I will build up to 50-60 gradually, hopefully by the time I do this I will be seeing times in the high teen range and take it from there.
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Just because you think you will run 60 mpw in 6 month does not mean that that actually happens.
You might be injured before that. I have seen that many times.
If you want to make running a lifelong passion you have to listen to your body otherwise you won't run for long.

I went from 30mpw to 100mpw in 3 weeks and then ran 100mpw for about 2 years. Dropped 3 minutes off my 10k from 33:00 to 30:00.
Listen to your body. Rotate shoes. Run on soft surfaces. Stop asking for advice and go do it.
Mmmh a 30 minute 10k is something quite different than a 3:10 Marathon goal.
I second this.

I am 45 years old and I have an short term goal of breaking 20 in the 5k and eventually 3:10 in the marathon. I have been running fir a few years now and currently run 22s in the 5k on 25-30 miles each week. Realistically, how much faster can I get on much higher milage and how long will it take me to get there?
Probably never. We are talking about a 45 year old who has never done mileage. Good news is that 50mpw should get you down around 20.
If you want to meet those goals you should seriously look into getting a coach. Then you don’t over think things, you follow the plan and train.
