Keep in mind his history on steeplechase, 4th at Western and a fast half mary considering his focus isn’t on road races. Still, looking at JFK, Walmsley took down Max’s CR. Then took WS CR. Once again, like top post said, Walmsley has a history of less that expected UTMB results, which is obviously the most mountainous. Flatter ultras like the majority of WS he has done the best at.

My prediction: 1:02:5x

I'm sorry a lot of you guys probably ran D1 and never made it. I really am.
I'm more sorry for the guys that probably barely made or walked onto D1 and thought they were awesome, but weren't.
And my deepest sympathies that you guys stopped training as seriously after college and live in the shadow of your former self.
Life is tough. Running is tough.

But root for your brothers that ARE making it. This guy is special. And whatever race he runs, wherever, we should be rooting for him.

If he ever ran a legit race like the Oly Trials or a marathon major he might actually land in a testing pool.
It's too bad Houston isn't a championship this year.

Again, it is pathetic that there are now two five page threads talking about some guys practice runs. You ultra hacks are hilarious. You all are predicting sub 64:00. That would put him around #30 in the US and #600 in the world this year. That is nothing worthy of 10 pages of posts about someone's practice sessions. Where are all the posts about John Raneri or Wade Meddles or Ayumu Kawano and their actual sub 64:00 effort? There are none because it is not noteworthy. It just further reinforces the concept that these ultra runners are just individuals that couldn't hack it in real events so they just kept moving up in distance until there was so little competition that they could get medals too. Good for him though, he has been able to make a career off of the whole Forrest Gump phenomenon.

No, you probably just found a former D1 runner that made it as something other than a glorified hiker (you know, like a doctor, an engineer, a pilot, or something that will provide for a family and last for 30-40 years and be able to retire at the end). Just saying, the Air Force is a great career path. Probably a little more lucrative over a person's life.

Yeah it is funny that all these road guys constantly bash on Jim and talk about how slow and horrible ultra runners are yet you never ever see them actually attempt an ultra. They seriously think that ultra runners WANT to be good road and track runners and the reason they run ultras is because they aren’t. HA. Jorgensen is a real athlete with serious credentials. Putting her in the same sentence with Walmsley just shows how delusional the ultra world is. Jorgensen has an Olympic gold medal. Walmsley is hoping to run a time that will rank somewhere around #100 in the world. By the way, there are probably 50 division 1 athletes that could do the 6 by 1 mile workout he did.

50 D1 runners that could do that workout? I was thinking more like 150, at least.

Anyway, just a workout, let’s see what he can run.
