Oversimplification and a disagreement about what "make the most in life" means. I live in a small city in flyover country where I make 5x the median household income. I could do the same work for 40% more at best in your top 5. My 4 kids private schooling would double, at least, I could not afford similar housing and I would face a longer commute and higher crime.
When I visit those cities, even Houston from your concession list, other professionals with a family don't compare to quality of life.
