6:05
6:30, don't @ me.
Also depends a lot on where he started though. I predict 8 minutes for the first ever mile
6:43
Why exactly is he a tool? Delusional maybe, but he seems fine. He's not a jerk or arrogant.
It turned out as expected. (Yes my answer is after watching the video!!)

I'm not playing stupid guessing games either. I don't think the guy is a tool, he's just a typical member of the general public who thinks running is much easier than it actually is. Ask anyone in your office and they'd probably think they could run a 5 minute mile if they trained for 8 weeks too.

Delusional yes, as well as extremely ignorant about just what it takes to go sub-5. The fact that he attempted the time trial bundled up as if he were going for a winter run says it all. When I saw his form and physique in the first few seconds of the video, even before the first time trial, I though to myself "No way in Hell." I had high school teammates who were thinner and had better form and weren't even able go sub-5 after 3 years on the team.
He doesn't seem like a tool at all, he seems pretty normal.
He's just sprinting like a madman. Not in good shape at all. Why does he take this approach? why 8 weeks? Why are all shots of him moving fast looking goofy?
Looks the kind of Millennial who would believe that all he needs to do is identify as a sub 5 minute miler.
His first time trial was 7:48 and also a 1:22 400m. It's obvious from his other videos that he works out regularly and is probably on the treadmill at least every other day. He also looks around 30 or not much older than that. He's probably considerably fitter than the average person.
Yet how many dumb 'how fast could the average American male run a mile?' threads have there been where half the people are certain it would be 6 minutes or something stupid?
I could brain wash said “tool”, and turn him into a latex salesmen in 8 weeks.
What's remarkable about this guy again? There are hundreds I have to weave through every year in the turkey trot just like him. Gobble gobble, m'fer.

The threads you are talking about usually stipulate a year or two of serious dedicated training. The "couch to mile" threads usually predict far slower than 6 minutes for a median time. In my recollection, most people usually guess about 10 to 12 minutes for a median time in that situation.
I predict 6 minutes.
Will watch now.

Sounds about right if he paces it evenly. 7+ minutes if he runs the first lap in 80sec.
He could of taken a lot more time off if he:
1. paced correctly - He positive split every lap.
2. Wasn't wearing so much clothing. He had to of been hot.
Also his take on how to get "faster" was pretty off and should trigger a lot of people on this site. Running a bunch of mileage slow and easy won't make you faster.... oh I think a few people on LetsRun would beg to differ.
This is one of the best running videos I've seen in awhile and this guy is awesome! This thread has the potential to be a reference link for many many years.
The only thing that will make this more awesomer is if this guy continues to focus on the same goal and periodically posts updates.
I'd wager sub 5 is not possible in the next two years for him. I'd also love to watch his progress and I'd hope he could make it. He'd truely be a legend amongst men of a certain age.
Seriously, how many people announce goals and you never hear from them? This guy is legit!!!
