For the CAL staff (and all CA public employees), salaries are public info. These are from 2017, total salary plus bonuses, not including benefits (which add another 15-30k depending on family status):
Tony Sandoval: 121,002
Shayla Houlihan: 74,970
Mike Gipson: 97,009
Chaz Davis: 63,394
Mohamad Saatara: 86,609
To live in the Bay Area, those amounts are not huge, but not terrible either. If one is young and single, you can find a decent place to live. If you're married to someone else who works full time, you can be an average person, but no way you're supporting a family by yourself.
Word is all those are being dropped (significantly) in order to pay new director more.
The list is missing Nikki Newman: $62,733 which isn't insignificant because he and Mo have provided what little success the program has had in the past couple of years. Since he coaches the same events as the new Director, I've heard that he's gone.
These are the 2017 salaries and 2018's were higher due to fundraising efforts, which the Director is expected to do for a low six figure amount. I've also heard that they're being reduced, but hopefully not below 2017 levels.
Putting a competent and stable staff together is going to be difficult/impossible. Any wage below $100,000 cannot support a family in the Bay Area. Cal's athletic staff are compelled to live hours away if they want to own a house or exist in tiny overpriced apartments if they don't.
