You should be able to go Smaller D1 or paid distance assistant, if you do everything right. Are you getting support from the staff you work for? Be open to D2 also!
This is for all aspiring coaches that plan to volunteer at any school(especially P5):
Make sure you come to the agreement with the coach(s) you’re working for, that per working for free and granted you do a great job and are loyal, they must compensate you by helping you during your process of seeking a paid position. Don’t let them off the hook by getting your services for nothing, but definitely go above and beyond for that program so they WANT to do this for you because they feel you deserve the opportunity. They should politic for you!
