Most of their athletes have gotten better this year since Devin left. He was totally disorganized. Drew was sleeping with his now-wife while she was on the team. The athletes are happier with the new coaches and their results show it.
I have zero connection to this program or know anything about what may or may not have happened. It may be true that the runners are happier with their new coaches. Below are the XC results for the past few years - one unbiased way to measure results.
XC Conference Team Finishes Men Women
New Coaches 2018 8th* 3rd
Previous Coaches 2017 4th 5th
2016 6th 2nd
2015 3rd 3rd
*Tied for last w/Cal State Northridge
At least on this measure it appears the women DID do better than the previous year (from 5th to 3rd), but about the same as 2016, 2015.
For the men it appears the opposite has happened with better team finishes the previous 3 years as compared to last fall. Maybe someone got sick or some type of other anomaly, but at least on paper, it would be difficult to argue the men have run better under a new coach. Perhaps they turned things around at Regionals and/or during the Indoor/Outdoor season.
All that said, perhaps the new coaches entered a very challenging situation and may have done the best job they and the runners could do.
