I went for a run with a girl once. Well I wasn't really with her for most of the run. I was starting a long run and a few minutes in a girl slowly passed me on the other side of the sidewalk. She was heading to the park which was where I was also going. I kept pace with her but kept a gap. She was really cute and I liked looking at her. I actually stayed like this for 5 miles. It was heaven. I then sped up to her and approached closer to her.
Me: Hello there. You sure are fast
Her: Hi, haha
Me: Mind if I join you?
Her: Yea
Me: Your form is perfect. I like your shoes too. They really suit you. You look like a professional
Her: Ha, I wish
Me: Wish no more, it is already true.
Her: Thanks
Me: I'm a marathon runner. I run everyday but I've never been able to have such nice company on a run
Her: That's nice
Me: It is amazing to run together. I feel like I have the energy to just run forever with you. You are like a perfect pacer.
Her: Thanks. I don't think I could keep up forever. I'm doing a time trial now.
Me: You seem like a super girl, as well as fast. What are your times?
Her: I don't know I don't have a watch
Me: I guess time is meaningless when you have good company. It really flies.
Her: I'm starting my tempo now. I wish I could fly now
Me: I'm struggling to keep up. I did a hard session yesterday myself so have to recover.
Her: Yea recovery is the most important part
Me: Great job, you are doing amazing. You are already literally flying. You are like superwomen or something
Her: Thanks goodluck
Me: Maybe I'll join you when you are warming down. I wish we could run more together. You are amazing. I see very few girls running around here these days. Your unique and special. I will be at the exit over there stretching for a bit. Hopefully I will join you afterwards.
She didn't say anything else and was going too fast. I wanted to keep with her but it was an easy day for me and had a hard session the day before. I couldn't find her afterwards when I finished stretching so she just disappeared from the park. I didn't want to be critical but she was going too fast for a tempo and breathing to heavy. If I didn't have a session the day before I would of stayed with her and helped her with training advice and running properly. What is it with people and running tempos incorrectly? Hopefully I will see her again soon and run together. I was too tired and niggles to ask for out for coffee at the time and was hoping to get the chance after her tempo. Oh well, next time. Running with your gf must be great OP, evan if it is short, hopefully she will eventually last longer and you will enjoy it more together. Maybe this girl will become my gf someday, who knows.
Hey Banana Bread, I know your love for Bekele is pure and in this situation you mean well, but as a girl I would find this a little terrifying. She may have been running too fast because she wanted to get away. You say you have Asperger's so I don't think remembering this conversation is creepy at all. But here are some signs that she may not have been feeling very forthcoming, but was too polite to say anything directly discouraging (or too scared you would strangle her on her cooldown).
Mind if I join you? Yea (so maybe yes she minds or just yeah, go ahead. in the positive interpretation at most she is noncommittal --she's not saying "no, not at all." or "please do." All her answers are short and she doesn't ask you any questions in return or say anything open-ended that continues the conversation. Everything she says is a dead end "I don't know. I don't have a watch."
The compliments are too much. It's like, wow, you are good for a girl. It's either a little condescending or it comes off as you hitting on her, which is again, kind of scary in that situation. She doesn't know you love and believe in Bekele.
"Thanks, good luck." That means "Bye."
I hope this doesn't hurt your feelings. I am 70% sure this is an accurate assessment. I don't know what you look like but you have to remember that for a girl, every guy she doesn't know is potentially threatening. Once I felt a guy was slowing down and waiting for me at the top of a curved hill. I could see his shoes and I was kind of scared he was going to kill me. But he just wanted me to take his picture in front of some tree, but I still think that was kind of a trick bc you can always take a selfie,
