I'll agree with this. At 38, a 2 week break is a 2-3 month project to get back to where I was, and it highly likely that I will have at least a small injury in the process. It's just not worth it like it was when I was a kid.
Work, illness, minor injuries will all force me to take off a bit of time here and there, but if if I ever take a 2 week 'break' again, it will go something like this:
3 days off
Easy 5 miler
1 day off
Light tempo workout and strides
2 days off
Easy 5 miler
2 days off
Easy 5 miler
1 day off
Light tempo workout and strides
That's 9 days of rest, 3 easy runs, and two light workouts, maybe 25-30 miles over two weeks. That should give the mind and body enough recovery to get through most issues while keeping the legs from going to jello.
