Did the Apollo Simulator Program (ASP) exist or not? Even the head of signals (Frank Byrne) agreed you could have faked the data.
But this sounds too kooky, even for hoax believers to stomach. Exaggeration doesn't help their case.

On each mission, a contractor is assigned the task of providing a standalone spacecraft interface simulator that replicates the timing and control specifications defined by a space agency for that mission. Experimenters, Engineers and integrators depend on the simulator to develop their onboard and ground systems that will later be connected to the real spacecraft's interface during: ground testing, systems integration and all throughout the mission's lifecycle, once in flight. It is not possible to discriminate between Housekeeping, Science and Commanding telemetry that is either streamed from a simulator or from a real operational spacecraft (at the mission operations center).
Therefore, NASA and its contractors would have heavily relied on a simulator to prepare for the mission. If the simulator was configured appropriately, entire flights would be modeled. Such events as loss of power, physical parameter threshold excursions, guidance systems failures etc could all be incorporated into realistic scenarios.
ASP was a total secrecy project along the same lines as the Manhattan Project of World War II. The Manhattan Project ultimately employed some 300,000 people and hardly a word was leaked out.
What percentage of the 300000 knew they were working for "Manhattan Project", and what percentage were sideliners and/or contractors who were just filling a role that was upwardly compartmentalized to its significance?
Savage. The two hoaxers go home DEVASTATED.
Look at how agilely the USA media switched its "talking points" to the Mattis retirement and how it might "trigger" the Trump impeachment removal and/or coup in progress.
Almost like this yakking was pre-coordinated... And the lemmings will believe almost anything.... on both sides....
Now just imagine the same in the sanitized environment (no opposition from Internet folk) controlled by interests dependent on the "success" of USA space mission ("manned moon"). What could you expect?

Yep, brilliant Straw Man. Should fool at least 95%+ of NPC lemmings.
Not even USA Vice President Harry Truman knew about it.
And Soviets knew about before FBI (from Communist spied embedded in US govt).
So of course very few percentage-wise of the however many (estimate range from 100000 to 600000 or more) knew about the Big Picture.
To be crystal clear, he said your post was dishonest. This is because of the dishonest implication that astronauts were ever exposed to such high amounts of radiation, rather than going around it. There is no need to discredit Lawrence Livermore Lab -- just to interpret the results honestly in the context of the Apollo missions. Note that lead, a good shield for electromagnetic radiation like X-rays, would also be a bad solution for ionized radiation, as the charged particles from the Van Allen belt radiation would have combined with the large lead atoms to produce more X-rays. Light metals like aluminum and stainless steel, and synthetic material like polyethylene are better suited to absorb the low levels of charged particles of the ionized radiation from the Van Allen belts. Here is an article and a video that explains:

NY Times (Aug 7 1945): The War Department revealed today (one day after Hiroshina) how three "hidden cities" with a total population of 100,000 inhabitants sprang into being as the result of the $3,000,000,000 atomic bomb project, how they did their work without knowing what it was all about, and how they kept the biggest secret of the war.
It would be pretty easy to get starry-eyed (and otherwise-unemployed) "space cadets" to join up to a hoax "Space Program" after the continual pretty-boy JFK propaganda about its definitive national interest (though for propaganda, not scientific, purposes). They would of course never know what it was all about, and moreover would promulgate the disinformation for generations down the road, particularly through indoctrination via schools.
The entire system was built to be piecemeal, so that only a small number of initiates needed to know whether they were *actually* going to the moon, or just simulating.

Wasn’t a straw man - everything in his post has been an argument by one of the two DEVASTATED hoaxers.
Tonnes of LEAD are what is required. This is an established requirement.
Apollo 11 could never "take an easy path" through the incinerating VA belts, not by a long chalk. In fact, the purported trajectory would have taken them on a throroughly unfavorable route along (and not even through) the radiation belts on their swashbuckling voyage to the Moon.
And they would have had no choice about it.
What's wrong with that...?
(hoaxed) FACT: even from Wikipedia (anti-hoax believer source), Apollo 8 had already traversed the radiation zones (both directions, plus deep space time too) with "human astronauts" in December 2018. So why didn't the subsequent 1969 paper use this data point? On easy explanation, though both parts of NASA on paper, the groups weren't sharing information (compartmentalization). You'd think with a big paper about radiation to be given at AIAA, they'd at least contact the Apollo 8 telemetry (even if faked), but no ... ?
NASA Space Science Coordinated Data Archive
Zond 5 was launched from a Tyazheliy Sputnik (68-076B) in Earth parking orbit to make scientific studies during a lunar flyby and to return to Earth. En route to the Moon the main stellar attitude control optical surface became contaminated and was rendered unusable. Backup sensors were used to guide the spacecraft. On September 18, 1968, the spacecraft flew around the Moon. The closest distance was 1,950 km. High quality photographs of the Earth were taken at a distance of 90,000 km. A biological payload of turtles, wine flies, meal worms, plants, seeds, bacteria, and other living matter was included in the flight. Additionally, according to the Russian Academy of Sciences, in the pilot's seat was a 175 cm tall, 70 kg mannequin containing radiation detectors.
Strange that they don't actually give the radiation detector readings...
Also, note that an UNMANNED Soviet moon mission obtained "high quality photographs of the Earth"
And the reason for tortoises, etc.?

NASA also seems not to know the distinction between turtles and tortoises.

They were just following USA media propaganda:
in addition to a life-size human mannequin equipped with radiation detectors, the spacecraft carried a number of living passengers, including a pair of Russian tortoises that newspaper reports initially described as "turtles."
Precisely.
Subsequent studies do not cite these alleged in situ readings. Ergo, the data is implicitly understood to be fraudulent.
Are the Soviet moon tortoises still alive? Some species can routinely live to 150 or more in Earth years.
Always an Angler wrote:

Soviets understood the necessary safety margins for the radiation planning.
"The tortoise, Testudo horsfieldi, enjoys a unique radiation resistance in the animal world. The lethal dose required to kill up to 50 percent of a population of the species is 40,000 Roentgens, compared to only 800 Roentgens needed to kill 50 percent of a human population. The tortoise can survive doses of tens of thousands of Roentgens."
Therefore, in Deep Space, even if travelling in a spaceship with 3-foot walls, you will STILL have 1000x more radiation than on Planet Earth.
As only Hoax Researchers seem to want to do the math, in deep space you'll have 240000 millirem (= 240 rem) per year, which for an 8-day mission duration (A11) is ALREADY about 5.26 rems, higher than the occupational level OF A WHOLE YEAR at the given time. Not to mention the van Allen overage. And this in a spacecraft with slabbed metal 3-feet thick.
