Shae went about it in a much better way, communicated it much earlier to the coaches, and did not throw a temper tantrum on the internet.
Also Oregon probably determined that they spend more scholarship money on her than she was worth so it was convenient for them to grant the release and pick up a runner who can score individually and on a relay with her scholarship.

First, Georgia can't be conference champion with her because she's already left school.
Second, If Georgia has no chance to win Nationals, than as a matter of logic they would have no reason to care whether she helps Texas or any other school win at Nationals.
Enforcing a covenant to compete against a person for any reason other than that person's competing with your business directly harms your organization in attaining its goals is invalid. The covenant not to compete is designed too protect the school that gives the scholarship, not "the entire NCAA."

Of course the rule is there to protect the entire system or it wouldn’t be there.
Is it possible Shae won’t be competing this season at UCLA? She may be forced to sit out - I haven’t seen anything one way or the other. Just the transfer. No solid indication of when we’ll see her compete.
If Tara is indeed in great shape, she’ll be able to compete as unattached at home meets wherever she goes.
Wonder if the NCAA will cite Texas for executing a scholarship contract knowing full well it was simply to skirt the dead period rule? Or if TX was maybe duped? Can’t blame a kid for transferring- plenty do it. But she eithe had bad advice or ignored good advice.

The poster didn’t understand hypothetical situations. The post was in response to someone saying that a school should only object if the gaining school would be in direct competition but that is not the entire purpose of the rule. If not for the rule, kids would be able to try out a school without doing much research. The system would crumble.

Exactly!
Oregon will be without her 1/2 or whatever scholarship this year but she had underperformed and they can always get an exact replacement or better with that money.
Choking at NCAA's or not, Tara is not replaceable in recruiting for UGA. They've brought in a great class for next year but that was under the impression they would be competing with Tara.
If she actually signed aid papers to visit UT during the dead period, then she dug her own grave. I have a really hard time she was so uninformed as to sign something like that just to visit 3 days earlier than she could have otherwise.

The NCAA just wants people to graduate in 4/5 years. If there was so much transferring, graduation rates would decrease significantly because credits from one school don't always transfer over to the next.
If there were no rules or deterrents to transferring, opposing coaches would be recruiting athletes off of other teams at NCAA championships, invitationals, conference championships. Kids would constantly be fishing for a better deal. That's basically pro sports right there.

During the dead period you are not able to make to visit schools unless you sign a scholarship offer. You can sign as many as you want and then show up at the school of your choice. It does not lock you in. It would be a violation if you visited that school during the dead period if the offer was not signed. Georgia called Texas compliance to see if Tara had signed because they heard she was on campus. Texas confirmed she signed an offer and then the coaches tweet went out.

I have to quote something that is so far fetched. 20lbs overweight has to be the craziest thing I’ve heard so far. That would put her at 5’3 145lbs. Smh (the choking comment is pretty out there as well)
What form does a transfer sign? And you can’t visit another college during a dead period? What if her boyfriend attends Texas or what if her uncle is the trainer for the track team? I assume she could visit them.
Not replying to anyone’s comments in particular but just wanted to throw a couple things out there. I have never met Tara, but the way some posters are bashing anyone wanting to transfer as a “snowflake” or “not tough enough” is simply ridiculous. The thought that an 18-year old kid coming out of high school (even with the help of their parents) could make the correct college decision 100% of the time without error is crazy. Life changes and things happen that are out of your control at times, things that often necessitate making a quick change! There is no reason why someone who has struggled at one place can’t choose to go somewhere where they feel they can better succeed. Is the timing poor in this case? Yes. Tara’s decision to transfer probably would have gone over better if it had occurred during the summer. However, it seems like her family has addressed that by saying that there are reasons behind the timing. I also get that there is a need by UGA to protect their investment, so to speak. Was it a low blow from the coach to tweet about her decision? I see both sides. Hard to say, but in my mind a coach who tweets about an athletes decision without the athlete being able to announce under their own timing sits badly. In conclusion, I just ask that cooler heads prevail here. Stop hiding behind the keyboard and assuming that there is some hidden agenda going on with all transfers. I don’t know her personally and can’t say if the things being said about her are true or false, but that’s not my place. Thanks

For the record, Georgia would have won the NCAA championship outdoors if Tara did what she was supposed to. Some other people blew it too, but a BIG part of the blame falls on Tara.
She was a full foot off of her long jump PR from high school and a quarter second off of her 100 hurdles PR from high school. She fouled 4 of her 6 jumps.
She knows if she hadn't screwed around all year, they wouldn't have lost by a point. Maybe she's leaving because of the guilt and the shame she feels.
If the former teammate comments about her are to be believed, then her coaches are equally responsible for her lackluster NCAA results. They're the ones that allowed her to "screw around all year".
As for the other ladies that "blew it", maybe they were burned out from Petros' famously intense training program. They didn't fall into the Elite Diva category, so they couldn't skate at practice.
