Masciarelli should win every runner of the year award instead of Tuohy.
Tuohy would not have won that race.

The speed ratings never lie!

I don't know if anyone else has emphasized this, but this is the first time, to my knowledge (Verzbicas?) a runner has won a national title IN THEIR FIRST SEASON OF THE SPORT. Just ridiculous talent here. Next year...showdown with Tuohy!
Masciarelli and Verzbicas won FLNC in ther first attempt, but both of those athletes had running experience.

Meh. Still in a league with Lukas IMO at this stage. Of course, he was far more experienced as racer due to triathlons.
Jordan Hasay is reportedly as a first-time National Champion in her first year of XC. Good company Sydney has.

By my calculations, Tuohy would have beaten Masciarelli by 7 seconds. Speed ratings also show that her NXN performance was better than anything run at Footlocker.

Someone teach her not to throw her arms up in victory at the end. Bad habit.
Winning a race is a bad habit?
No wonder you post here
She almost Huddled that finish is what he is saying.

Someone needs to convince Masciarelli that she has a MUCH better chance of running for a top school like Villanova, than playing basketball for a similar type school, like Villanova. I'm sure Gina would sign her up today, while the coach of Villanova bball might not be so excited.
AllieO never ran indoors. Was the point guard on the BB team. I hear she could dunk too ... on a 6 foot hoop.

She won't even answer Gina's phone call. I heard she's more excited about getting phone calls from Geno Auriemma at UCONN.

By my calculations, Masciarelli would have beaten Tuohy by 13 seconds yesterday. Also, the speed ratings don't take into account that Masciarelli is 5 feet 10 inches tall, so they really don't apply in her case.
Another great Syndney M!
That was a great race, and congrats to Sydney M.. It's an amazing thing to win a national championship, but she does come in with a good amount of experience. She ran CC in middle school and was great, including a 2nd place finish in the 13-14 year old race at the Footocker NE regional. Her outdoor track times were very fast for a freshman. She also ran an aggressive season this fall, running her school schedule and several open races in New England such as the Mayor's Cup and the USATF Open NE's. From all reports, basketball is her first love, which would be too bad because she's a talent.

How would her height help? and what calcluations u using? someone posted meylan's speed ratings in atnoher thread, they seemed legit. but am curious to see someone prove him wrong
My personal favorite finish comes from 1988 Kinney, which was replaced by Footlocker. Skip to 9:15 in this video and watch Melody Fairchild gut check another runner for 2nd place.

This was a more exciting race, but NXN still had the quality over Footlocker. Those cones look so ghetto and amateur. My high school league races had better markers.
Not to mention Nike had ropes around every aspect of the course. No questions about cutting corners in that race.
I'm sick and tired of these comments. I guess your username is meant to be ironic because it's not nice. I'm a 35 year old dude and have absolutely no skin in the game, but FL has a better field than NXN. Full stop.
Running is supposed to be about simplicity. Take the top runners, give us accurate timing and splits, and show us the damn race. That's all we need. FL does all three of those things. NXN does not. You can't watch the race without paying a fee, it doesn't really have the top runners, and I don't know if the splits are accurate or not because you can't watch the race without paying a fee.
I guess someone at Nike HQ is posting a bunch of mean comments all over the messageboard but I'm really getting sick and tired of this delusional stuff.
Finally, while I appreciate having the team competition at NXN, there's something that seems intrinsically unjust to me about it. It isn't the kids' faults that they're running for a faster program or a slower program. It's not their fault that they go to a large wealthy school where kids have the time and resources to run XC to the best of their ability. FL is much more straightforward: There's a qualification system that let up-and-coming runners see the competition, and in the end the fastest kids go. Period.

The chalk line was to show the center of the course, not the shortest route.
Hart was fine, and didn't cut any corners.
Just rewatched the race and Hart ran a technically flawless race. In any event every corner is roped or fenced so that it is immune to cutting or getting off course.
Hart is going to be solidly sub-9:50 this spring.
She didn’t miss any cones that I saw, but was definitely on the wrong side of the chalk at 9:31, 10:07 and 15:40.
I only the first case, but in any case like this if the officials think it is an issue, the only solution is more barriers. For all we know, every other girl ran it exactly the same as her. This is cross country, not track. Maybe Footlocker needs to watch the Euro Champs today or even NXN for examples of courses with no chance of cutting.
Seriously what makes you think that
Tuohy has all the fastest times all the records. And she's beaten almost all the girls in the FootLocker Race by big margins
Tuohey's highest speed rating 177
Hart and massarelli were 163 yesterday
Don't get me wrong that was a great Footlocker race and I think both of those girls are awesome Runners but it's just strange when people make absurd claims that fly in the face of all of the evidence
Y7 seconds? Her best speed rating shows her 45 seconds faster.her nxn speed rating was 12 seconds faster. Just curious where you're getting your numbers
It might be just me, but I wish Hart would have won FL. I like someone who's genuine and good on camera during interviews and such. Not to mention she ran a smart race and has excellent speed, but hey--the clock doesn't lie. Masciarelli won fairly.
I know Masciarelli is new to the national XC scene, but she is no good on camera. I kind of feel that way about Tuohy, too; she always seems subtly cocky whenever I watch an interview of her. Hart is a very sweet and genuine girl and would make a tremendous teammate, someone whom every college coach desires.
Katelynne Hart goes home DEVASTATED

I tune in to watch the racing, not the interviews. That said, Hart is very well spoken and engaging
