With talk of Farah returning to the track in 2019, my mind couldn’t help wander to the Lance Armstrong Comeback and the eventual fate suffered by a once time global icon.
Sure, Farah doesn’t have the transcendental back story of Lance, nor does he seem to have invoked such vitriolic vengeance within his sport, but there are some parallels:
Both seem to live to compete and seem to have their self worth and identity tied in their sport.
There is a perceived ‘gap’ in the performance levels in their absence: a few more titles are surely easy pickings?
The current anti doping climate has heated up due to the Russian situation and a perceived need to clean up the sport.
Is he potentially walking into the fire?
