Hi there, I’m new here and did a quick search to make sure I’m not asking something that’s been answered a million times over, but I didn’t see it right off the bat (again, total newbie and may have missed it!)
I’ve got a 5 year old daughter who sometimes wants to run with me. I use a double jogger for her and her 4 year old brother, and fairly often she wants out to run. The first time she really shocked me and did a solid mile, with just a few breaks here and there for a sip of water.
Yesterday I was running in a charity 5k, again using the double jogger for the kids. She insisted on running with me (slowly of course!) and did a little over a mile before wanting a break. She ran again for about the final half mile, so a total of about 1.5 miles.
Now usually I’m very “follow your intuition and trust your body” type of parent, but I wanted to seek a little advice on this one. I don’t want to risk any sort of injury to her legs, but I don’t want to discourage her either. I follow her lead 100% and she takes water breaks, walk breaks, or rides as she requests.
I’ll also send a quick message to her pediatrician for actual medical advice, but I’m sure some of you out there are parents and may have been through this before.
Sorry it’s a novel! Thanks for any assistance!
