OR - Thanks. You have given me a good target of losing weight. I want to get as close to 150 as possible before Boston 2019. My body is very resistant to weight drop though - maybe I should keep my mouth shut more.
Allen - I was really surprised with how much I had left in the tank at 20 miles in. Think it is a function of the higher mileage that I ran for the last 6 weeks.
RunnerSam - Thanks. Way to gut out in the 100K. That kind of distance is just unfathomable to me.
Bruin - I actually negative split CIM. 1:33:53 for the first half, 1:32:54 ish for the second half.
CIM Course
This is the view-point of a middle of pack guy - take it with a pinch of salt. CIM is a fast course but only if you plan to negative split and are okay with hills. The first 16 miles is loaded with constant rollers which beat up the legs pretty badly. If you run that too hard, then you are toast for the last 10 miles. Anecdotally, CIM is one race where I have seen the most number of "death shufflers" from mile 18 onwards.
It is fast because a) net downhill, b) great weather, c) large groups, d) pacers for 2:45 (my friend paced that group yesterday), e) no corrals - you can sit in a warm bus till 15 mins before race start.
It took me 3 attempts to run CIM well - I DNF'ed the first one and major positive split (+15 mins) the second one.
