Taking this comparison a little further, I guess this “street jazz musician/one trick pony”, would then focus on his self-proclaimed greatness of his single motif and discount and ignore learning from masters of the art form like, say, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter etc
There’s a world of music out there brother. I’d find you more beastly if you opened yourself humbly to the possibilities.
There are also worlds of music outside jazz. I’ve been thru plenty of music genres. In middle school it was country. High school was 90s alternative such as the chili peppers and counting crows. Listened to a bunch of rap in college, then widespread in law school. As my daughter grew up I listened to more and more pop. These days I’ll listen to just about anything. Never has a jazz phase though. Saving that one for my nursing home days.
