On debut Brett has DNF’d Fukuoka not making it past 35k. Before the race he said he wanted to run 2.08/09 and was on 2.11 pace before he pulled out. No official word yet to why he pulled out.

Out of his depth at this level just yet, give him a few years. I personally think people like him should focused first on improving his 5k and 10k times then do the marathon later.
Him and Mcsweyan, Tieran, and Morgan Macdonald are good young runners for Australia, it is amazing DeCastella's Australian record (2:07.51) has lasted so long, but it is also sad it has lasted that long, hopefully one of these young runners can get it.
Australia has 6 Men in the Top Thousand Performers All time (The 1000th fastest time is 2:10.08), Lee Troop is the Youngest Australian in the top 1000 at 45 years old.

I meant they only have FIVE and Not Six in the top 1000
7:45/13:15 are nice, but 28:xx and 1:04 not so much. A bit early for 26.2.
When did dnf's become acceptable? Get your arse back on the course and finish the bloody race mate.
He did run a 5k Pb during the European summer after coming back from an injury so he was in great shape

My money is on Rayner getting that record. That boy is quick and can race

Another good young runner, he 1:01.01 to win a Half Marathon, 23 years old.
I listened to his interview on the Inside Running podcast and it was pretty clear he wasn't respecting the distance anywhere near enough. Anyone who thinks they'll go out and run the Australian record "to see if I'm any good at the marathon" is about to be taught a lesson by the marathon! Haven't heard why exactly he DNFd but basically he did what most people do in their debut marathon: run well for 30k before all of a sudden the wheels fall off.
He would have been better off going out at 2:15 pace for the first 35k then seeing how much he could go under from there. A 2:14-something debut would have led him nicely for a crack at 2:10 with another six months of specific training.
Oh well... hopefully he learns from the experience and sticks with it.
13:15->28:24->64:15=alot slower than the 2:08 he was targeting. I'd guess that conversion is trending towards 2.18ish, but i suspect he's capable of 2.12ish next start, then who knows in the future.

His 13:15 is from this past summer. His 10k PB is older but he was in at least sub-28 shape or better this summer.
His half PB is actually 63:xx from pacing Fukuoka last year so he is likely capable of 62:xx.

His pb was 13.21 when he ran 28.24. Still poor. But yes he can do better, jogged it in, sulking with bottom lip dragging on the ground when the beaten favourite at zatopek. Either way, he's 28.24 until he proves otherwise.
