She is about 20th on the list of people that I would predict to make the team in the 1500. She will be running about 4:10 in the 1500 in 2 years.

She might be capable of running in the 15:10-15:20 range in 15 months or so in a single race. However the trials are rounds and might be a bit much to ask of her but you never know as she is a generational talent. I just hope she stays healthy.
Isn’t anybody else concerned that she’s going to be retired by age 24 or so. I think a body only has a certain number of years really pushing it. I see injuries ahead. That would be a shame. What’s the hurry?

Hasn't she been checking out Iona? Very close to home that's for sure.
Isn't Iona a clown College? Fordham would be a better choice.

The Hounddog has been saying for sometime she will be pointing to the OT. I’m confident she will make the team and be in finals in Tokyo. You naysayers forget she is now running with no competition.
That is total bullish*t. Do you even run? She ran her butt off and worked hard the entire race. The only thing missing is if she had to kick. You saying she'll be running the trials is a given and anyone with any sense already knew that---another stealth gloat? How ridiculous. No competition? She won by 16 or 17 seconds, give it a rest. You must have no life, that I'm sure of.
I have to laugh at morons like you. What do you have aspirations to have a sports show on the radio ? Chemiel is a major talent - could go pro right now - and she is the only girl who can keep close to her. Races are over by the 400 meter mark. And the women’s 5k is soft by USA standards. Exactly one woman broke 15 this year. Shelby Houlihan is a lock, no doubt , then , IMHO, it is a battle between KT and Schweiser for 2 and 3, with Allie O in the mix if you switches from steeple to 5k. All the American superstars - Jenny S., Coburn, Flanagan, Freichs, Des, Ajee, Molly H and Gwen J - are locked in other events. If you have seen her run in person you realize she is light years ahead of the High school competition.
If I were to pick the 2020 5000 team right now it would be Houlihan, Schweizer, Jones. KT 6th.
Wow, this is sad.
I hope I’m wrong but in my mind just even considering this is probably going to hasten the burn out. Someone needs to help her with some patience. She is running absolutely fantastic right now but she is also a girl. At some point in the next 2 years her body is going to change, she can get through this but there is going to be a period where she doesn’t progress and maybe even regresses. How is she going to get through this time period if she also has the pressure of trying to hit the times needed to be going to the trials, or working hard enough to get this. This is 100% crash and burn waiting to happen. She needs to calm down, enjoy high school, go to college, enjoy doing well there while improving all aspects and aim for 2024.
I said this about Cain and a lot of people got mad. We can get mad but it’d be in her best interest if someone were real with her. Certain things are just part of nature, trying to ignore that is only hurtful in the long run.
Jones has such a kick I’m thinking she goes 1500 , but we will see what she focuses on this year . She is a threat in both ,
She needs a PB of 4:05 at 1500, and 15:10 or better at 5000. Both might be possible in 18 months, but she has not exhibited the 800 speed to go for the 1500. Plus, the 5K is probably the weakest US running event (except for Shelby Houlihan, and Shelby might focus on the 1500 to avoid stiff international competition in the 5K). So go ahead and focus on the 5K. She might be able to beat Karissa Schweizer by 2020. Definitely a long shot.

She can definitely make the trials. Her 5000m time is close to the qualifier and she has faster XC times than other runners who have run qualifying track times. Something like that will be her first time having proper competition though so it’ll be interesting to see how she handles it. I think she will do well. Not sure if she would make the team or not
Do you know anything about the trials?! You don’t get a look in unless you run sub 15:40. Are you saying she ran 15:40 on a XC course?
Yes she can probably run sub 15:40 on the TRACK and make the trials, but please give other 5k runners in the country respect.
Yes she has run 15:37 on track and I’m sure can get faster if we assume she continues to improve etc. What I meant about XC times was that eg her NXN time was much faster than Allie O (previous winner 2014 I think 17.19) who ran 15.20 or something in 5000m track and made 2016 Olympic trials finals. I know high school and college times are Tricky to predict and being the best in high school doesn’t mean you’ll continue to improve, but I’m saying the potential is definitely there if you look at similar runners - it’s not unheard of at all for someone with a 15.37 5000m PB at 15 to lower that by 18
If everything goes well as it has been except for the injury, I would think she would take the 5000. Who are her competitors? 1500 I don't know.
How is Iona a clown college and Fordham not? They're about equals academically. Fordham has zero track presence.
She said in this interview that she will be running a pro 3k in January. Now that's something I'm looking forward to.

Fordham is most certainly better academically. Moran.
Private coach, nutritionist, strength coach, parents are all in. Super talented kid, too much to soon.

Shelby Houlihan, Karissa Schweizer, Emily Infeld, Shannon Rowbury....I still say she has a shot though.
Good point about Cain. In fact, has any HS distance phenom who went pro instead of college actually done well? I cannot think of any.

Why?
The window of opportunity is always smaller than the length of your career. She should run fast while she can. She could get hit by lightning tomorrow.
Like burnt out Lagat?
There is no such thing as burn out. There is injury, boredom and the end of talent. People mature and move on.
