The best coach is likely at some small public school. Has few numbers to draw from and unlike a private school can’t recruit. However despite this still puts out a competitive team year after after year. You probably will never hear of them unless they’re in your state.
not reading through five pages of posts, but I'm putting Walt Lange's name out there
Laura Schmitt at Redwood in San Rafael, CA gets a mention.

You brought up a 2 year old thread to say that?

That's what I was thinking.
Hands down the Best High School distance coach in the country right now is Sean Brosnan at Newbury Park High School.

Hmmm. I think you mean he is the coach in the best situation right now. Could he replicate his results in another, rougher part of SoCal? P.S. I don't fault him. Sometimes you just get lucky.

You could say that about any coach I suppose. Best coaches have the best athletes and teams. It’s kind of like the chicken and the egg.

No I mean best HS coach in the country. It's not hard to see with that development and results

Yes, and I mean that he may have a good system, work hard, and care for his athletes, but the biggest factor is WHERE he is coaching. Look at the median income of that district, the average home value in that market, and the family stats. NP is a school with roughly 2450 students. Drop Sean in an inner city school with the same number of students and I am not sure he could replicate his results. Pick any city you like. Highly unlikely he would be as successful and that's ok to admit. Its a good situation and he has capitalized on it, but lets acknowledge his good luck at landing at that school.

No one has ever done what Newbury Park has done and doing. They are rewriting the record books. That's not luck. Sean Brosnan is one of the best coaches in the country if not the best. Saying he is lucky or "Drop Sean in an inner city school with the same number of students and I am not sure he could replicate his results" is a cop-out. It's time to give credit where credit is due. You won't get very far in life with a cop-out attitude. It's a bad look and make you sound jealous.
With your attitude any successful coach is "Lucky". You must think Mike Smith, John McDonnell, Vin Lananna, Joe Vigil, Martin Smith are all just lucky.
FTW
No relations to Shane Brosnan either.
PS everyone is watching NP now

A resurrected thread but an interesting one.
What is the measure of the best coaches? As an example, we have a coach in our state that was considered great because of his winning percentage in a different sport. It turns out he molested his athletes for 20+ years. But his teams won a lot of championships.
Is he related to Ryan Mulrooney from Rosemount? Ryan went from JV last year (won conference in the JV race) to second at conference today in the varsity race
