People in the tech industry are ruining the English language. I am so sick of hearing that someone works in the ____ "space". I met an attorney who works for FinTech start ups. She kept saying "I work in the FinTech space". NO YOU DON'T. YOU WORK IN THE FINTECH INDUSTRY. A SPACE IS JUST AN EMPTY PLACE. IT IS NOT A BUSINESS OR INDUSTRY.
This also goes hand in hand with "disrupting". "This new company has a peer to peer lending concept that is totally disrupting the FinTech space." NO IT ISN'T. DISRUPTIONS ARE BAD. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH A DISRUPTION.
Then, if you have to go to lunch with these people, this is how the order their food: "ok, so I am going to do a kale salad with the hibiscus tea." NO. YOU AREN'T GOING TO DO IT. YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE IT. THE ONLY PERSON WHO "DOES" A SALAD AT A RESTAURANT IS THE COOK.
Finally, if you are at a table full of women, they will agree with each other by saying "yeah" with a weird accent. It comes out sounding like "yaw" (rhymes with "paw").
