Looks like we will get to see soon enough what he is capable of on the roads. Just announced on his Strava.

1:04 ain't no walk in the park.
Hope he gets the OTQ.
Should of gone with the marathon. Not gonna get a 1:04.
I guess we will have to see how this next 8 weeks go with his training. I’m not going to say he can’t do it without seeing specific workouts he’s hitting for the half marathon.
He said he thinks he’s capable of a 1:02 half, so who knows...
Zero chance
1:03 and he'll follow it up with a 3rd place at the trials in 2:13.

Please let this happen. I’d love to see Walmsley in Atlanta.
Full marathon too troublesome?

Takes about 4 times as long to recover. When was Rupp's first marathon?

I don't think that question needed to be answered.
Jim is definitely capable of running at least a 63min half. he's done 30mi training runs at 5:50 pace. pretty sure he can run 4:50s for an hour
Guys he's already laid down a 1:08:08 half after college.

I think it will come down to his choice of attire.

So 1:08:08 when he was doing actual speed training, but sub 64:00 according to the LRC ultra fans when he is doing races where he is "running" 12:00 miles.
gonna go ahead and pencil in 1:03:39 as my prediction.

This. He may be fitter now, but where's the speed? Once you go into ultra training... ask Sage about leg speed and his marathon performances.

He wasn't doing "actual speed training" then.
He said this in an interview about 2013:
"Basically, I casually ran, maybe once or twice a week. But I got into road cycling a lot. That was really popular. After graduation I bought a road bike and I put that to use in California."

The dude averaged 8:42 per mile for 100 miles with 18,000 ft of climbing and in 100 degree heat at Western States...and ran 6:34 per mile for 50 miles at JFK..your claimed 12:00 miles is false...
