Just his NCAA XC credentials:
4x All-American
3x top-five
Runner-up by 0.5 seconds to a senior running on his home course
Ummmmm... that's not a disappointment by any stretch.

Just some Fisher naysayers who likes to claim that he isn’t American. Fisher and Hunter will be the top Americans for the next 10 years.
THIS!!!!
He was only 1/2 second out of first over 10k! The dude ran phenomenal!
Knight lost to Riley Masters, in a race in which there were 5 people, during the middle of getting back started training. Kid got 9th in the World in the Summer. Then won NCAA XC in the Fall. Then won another Indoor title in the 3k, while doubling back and getting 2nd. Following that up with a runner up finish in the outdoor 5 in the spring.
The kid only ran the race because it was in Canada.
Go back to your parents basement.

I love the thread title as it got me to read it.
Here's one thing to remember.
Galen Rupp accomplished everything in college as a 5th year guy.
He won zero NCAA titles at Fisher's age.
Rupp vs. Fisher before age 22
NCAA titles. Fisher 1 . Rupp 0.
PR at mile: Fisher 3:59. Rupp 4:01.
PR at 3k: Fisher 7:48. Rupp 7:49
PR at 5k: Fisher 13:30. Rupp 13:30.
Spot on

Just want to point out that Knight began his Pro Career in a non outdoor championships year. Also he has already been to worlds or the olympics or both. I forget which one but Knight and Cheserek have accomplished more in their running career than fisher has to date or by their senior year. No knock against Fisher either I actually like all 3 runners.
I just want to point out that Knight has in no way proven as anyone of note in the pro ranks, while as you can see, Fisher is one if the best in the ncaa. Knight ended up 9th in the worlds...behind Butchart. Knight was schooled by Riley Masters of all people this year!! Riley Masters!! Think about the level below Masters and thats where Knight is..
9th ahead of Patrick Tiernan and 6 seconds behind Mo Farah. After a College Season too. Stop trying to belittle his accomplishments. Especially when he beat Grant Fisher when he was in college there is no argument against that. Also no outdoor championships this past year so if a dissappointment to you is not medalling at indoor worlds (When Justyn was still Indoor NCAA eligible) then of course he is a dissappointment to you.
Like I said Justyn and Ches have accomplished more in their time in college than Fisher. Not a bad thing though. they are all great runners. The only way fisher's college career can surpass knight would be to win 3 titles by June.

Rojo commenting on my thread is a top 5 proud moment for me
This article has some interesting facts about Fisher. It's amazing that Stanford has five second-place finishers but no individual champ. Is the Stanford Curse as strong as the Foot Locker curse? Also, Fisher has the 4th lowest combined place for men who didn't win, so he is certainly one of the best XC runners without a title.

The Collegians rarely get into races where they can run a really fast time, I expect a collegian with Fishers credentials to get in the 13:15-13:20 range within 2 years out of college and eventually get into a race where everything goes right, pacers, weather etc. and he runs about a 13:05
Where does he rank when including the champions? Pre and Ches ahead of him but who else? Many champs may not have qualified as freshmen so I am betting that he is top 10.

i bet you won everything you did in life, eh? if not, then wow, what a huge disappointment you turned out to be
THIS!!!!

YES, THIS indeed!
He was less than a second out of first place in a tough long distance race. Boy oh boy, some of you characters must live lonely lives to be that brutal to guy that was that close to first place.
Let's see what happens long term. Do you care more about college achievements or achievements at Worlds/Olympics?

Fisher ranks 11th for all runners in NCAA history in combined place for athletes that ran all 4 years. Ed Ches and Pre have the least with 6. Goucher is third with 13.
Fisher can run a lot faster than 13:30 this year in college and I expect him to run 13:15 or better at Stanford in the spring, if he is healthy. He should also break 3:40 in the 1500m by a good bit (I predict 3:35-36). The guy who beat him by 1/2 second (Morgan McDonald) ran 13:15 or so in very hot weather quite some time ago and is better than that now. The lack of fast outdoor races for our collegians (because they don't race enough with pros and pacers) suggests that they are not nearly as fast as they actually are.

That is what I am saying give him some time, he will improve his current Personal Best's immensely
The difference being Rupp went on to win two global medals and run 3:50, 12:58 and 26:44. Fisher's career might end after college, considering how much emphasis he put on his studies.

Typical of our media today in that the title is a question with a negative lead on word to formulate an answer before thinking.
Wait, anonymous Letsrun posters are now part of the media?

This one is sillier than the Allie O post. He isn't the only Footlocker or NXN champion in college you know. Yet he finished 2nd only losing to a foreigner in the meet. What place was Reed Brown or Dylan Jacobs? Where are guys like Rocha and Gessner? How did hacker finish yesterday after being runner up in both NXN and Footlocker in the same year? What about sub 4 guys Maton and Slagowski? He and Hunter appear to be on track to be the top American runners over the next decade. Youi can come up with a list of disappointments that I started above but he isn't on it.
you brought up some horrible examples. dylan jacobs is currently a red shirt freshman. give him 4 years of XC before you rip on the guy
The Stanford guy that has disappointed me has been Alex Ostberg. I really liked him in HS and he has been until now mostly just a pack guy for Stanford. I was glad to see Alex rocking the AA status at this meet. I believed in the kid from CT in HS and now he has vindicated me.
