Haile Gebrsealssie said today at the Great Ethiopian Run presser when talking with Zersenay Tadese about Tadese's world record in the half marathon finally being broken 3 weeks ago. "When you talk about a new generation (of records) you have to talk about the technology. The shoes that he (Tadese) had and the shoes that the Kenyan (Abraham Kiptum) who ran 6 seconds faster (are different). When someone runs close to your record (you think about the different technology).” Geb then turned to Tadese and said, “You had to to be able to run faster right (with the same technology)?”
Do most of you agree?
I do. Technology gains usually are incremental, but in the case of a carbon plate in a shoe it could be much more radical. At least Kiptum broke the record when the shoe was available and not a prototype not available to others.
