Who ever is coaching her is not thinking what will she be doing 5 years from now or even 2 years from now. What is his plan this girl to go to be professional after high school? Even with that mind set, this is just too much for a girl in high school even for a freshman girl in college.
What if she does not want to run in college?
Are the memories she forms in HS running not worth anything?
Why does there have to be a long term purpose to this all at the expense of instant gratification?
The French and many Europeans would prefer the latter, btw.
She is not injured now. I have seen kids who run barely 20 miles a week get injured during the 3 weeks of practice prior to the first invitational in Aug ... year after year. That was a coach's kid. Neither may run in college; who is going to leave running with the larger portfolio of great memories ?
As an aside, try visiting some of the Inuit towns in Alaska to get a sense of the role personal preference plays in what they call "common sense".
If this is too much running for you, then you are free to run less ... or not at all.
