Every diet has its application I guess. If you wanna run fast you can't do it without carbs.
Zach: American Record
Sage: Letsrun spammer

Record for what exactly? Zach has been faster before.
IAAF states Sage’s 2:16 is not legal - can’t count it.
Looks like Zach may have stinsoned this one.

OMNIS GO HOME DEVASTATED
I don’t follow ultra runners but after today I’m a big Zach Bitter fan. He was going for a record but took the time to give encouragement to the runners going opposite direction. Also was thanking fan cheering.
Fine job. As for food, many diets work well. In nature one has to MOVE to get TO the food, so output will always be prioritized over intake.

Zach does race with carbs, about 150 cals per hour. Most folks are twice that. He was a Hammer Gel endorser when he set his 100 mile track record. He also uses carbs in intense training, but base training with LCHF allows him to have less carbs while racing.

My only beef with Sage is his cognitive dissonance and flat learning curve. His ego-attachment is destroying his running career.
If there has ever been one logical discussion point in realms to Sage, this is it.

Only if sage ate steak he wouldn't have such a learning problem.

Seriously? It is like you guys posting on the first page of this thread have never watched an ultra before. Anyone can look good the first 40 miles of a 100. Maybe next time you should wait a little longer before declaring he is going to break a record or that his diet matters.
This thread only reinforces the stereotype that ultra fans are the weirdest people on this site. I clicked on this thread hoping to read something cool about ultramarathons, but now I am even less interested in ultras than I was before I read through this thread. Good job, folks.
Zach Bitter did the very best considering the cold weather for this day.
Excellent performance .
This was a example of great ultrarunning.

But this thread was mostly dominated by some anti-Sage troll posting a bunch of insults that had no relevance at all to the thread.
Typical letsrun thread -- some good stuff inundated by whining trolls.

This thread might be better named: "Zach Bitter 100 mile WR attempt."
At no point was Zach 'on pace' (even if a given split would lead to such extrapolation) to a 10:07 100 miler. As it stands, the WR is 11:28 (on a track), and Tunnel Hill 100 is a gravel road, a bit slower surface. He ultimately finished in 12:08, and while `100 miles on flat road or track in good weather (as opposed to say, Keys 100 in high FL heat) has never been hotly contested in history, Zach now has four 100 mile performances between 11:40 and 12:08:XX. Outstanding
It's worth noting the first major breakthrough for flat fast 100 miles was Cavin Woodward's 11:38 (still faster than Zach's American Record), and the way he ran it. Among his wild splits was the first recorded sub 5 hour 50 mile in history (as as split or otherwise).
https://arrs.run/ARRS-root%20dir/AR_Great100Miles.htmFascinating! Cavin ran an amazing race. Glad someone still remembers!
First of all congratulations to Zach Bitter's outstanding performance in this cold weather.
The headline was meant to be a joke for this ridiculous prediction tool the timing people used.
And yes Zach Bitter is a very consistent competitor. Not very common these days.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
