How so, in just her second marathon race?
3rd, of course Boston counts.

With Hasay and Cragg injured...
Cragg isn't injured -- she came 3d at the USATF 5K Championship yesterday in NY. In her interview after the race, she said she tweaked her hamstring a while ago, and had to shut down training while that healed. By the time she recovered, she too far behind in her training to run in Chicago, so she dropped out. That she was able to finish 3d yesterday off of marathon training suggests her hamstring is fine. We won't know about her fitness until the spring.
As for Hasay, who knows?

I stand corrected about Cragg--I thought it was more serious than that. I agree with your "who knows" on Hasay. If you told me she was going to be fully healthy, I might well call her the favorite but it does sound like she's having problems:

Is this sarcasm? This woman lost to 2 of the greatest women african runners of all time, but destroyed the other african women.
Her 2:26 would easily be 2:21 on a a flat course. Mary ran 2:22, and her pr is 2:17.
You have to be joking.
You're not a 2:21 marathoner until you do it. She easily smashes it at 10K-HM and kicks Jordan's butt at HM, but Jordan is a marathoner. Molly is not.
has anyone mentioned yet she did that in Type-As per Jon's interview
that's freakin' amazing, wouldn't be able to use those for even a half
kinda want to see what she can do in springs like everyone else was using
every 1% would be around 80 seconds faster?

I agree- the way forward for Molly is the marathon. She’s had an extensive track career and has the experience, focus and ability to perform outstandingly at the marathon.
For her to run the 10000m at Tokyo would be folly. I doubt she would be the first American home in that race let alone near the podium. The Tokyo 10k will most likely feature Ayana and Hassan destroying everyone else, I doubt Ayana will ever run another track 5k so she will simply blast the 10k without reserve.
In addition the 10k result usually goes more to form than the marathon. What is often overlooked is the experience and know how that Huddle has under her belt in reference to championship distance running. I mean who knows which Kenyans and Ethiopians will be representing in Japan, and unless they put forward Dibaba and Cheruiyot Molly has a really good chance of making the top 5

This is a woman who is still racing the track and doing shorter distance road races. I think after today, her focus on the marathon will be even greater.
She def has sub 2:20 ability, easily.
Keep in mind Sara Hall DNF'd in her marathon race. Cragg and Hasay were injured.
So a damn impressive time by Molly!
she should focus on marathon... not because she can run sub 220(no she cant) but because her window for track medals has passed and she can make more money and run some decent times and maybe get a top 3 or luck into a win!

Yikes! That interview with Hasay is not reassuring. On top of everything else, it's never a good sign when you go to see an endocrinologist about bone problems.
I agree with you about a healthy Hasay. So far, she looks to be the best of the current crop. On top of everything else, she's got age on her side in a big way.

There is chrono age and running age. At this point Hasay is way "older" in the latter terms than say, Kieffer who is 30.
lol..so you're reading an 8 ball?
Exactly bro!
No way in hell is she winning anything at 10000m at the Olympics , and throw in Carolina Kipkirui and all the fast half marathon girls, forget about it.
In the Marathon she can medal!
Hell, Cragg won a Bronze in World Marathon Championships, and Molly is a faster runner.
Hell Cragg just ran 2:21 after being a 2:26 marathoner. Molly has been running the marathon for just a year and ran 2:26 on a hilly course!
I know she wants that track global medal, because of what happened in 2015, but she has to let that go.
The woman has the potential to be greatest American female marathoner of all time.
Stays healthy, the fastest American out there beyond 10000m, and she knows how to race.
Let’s go Molly!
You’re so cute bragging about Hasay being a “marathoner” when all she’s run are fast courses so far.
I say Molly will kick Hasay’s butt. Watch this space.

You need to chill out.
She’s done nothing yet in the marathon after three tries to prove she can handle it.
A great half-marathoner does not necessarily translate to a great marathoner.

What the hell is wrong with you?
This is an incredible start for her at the marathon, and she is still running track.
It took Shalane 7 years to master the marathon and Cragg just ran lower than 2:26 this year!
So after one year Mary does not have it?
What’s the hate for?
Mary is well on her way, just sit back and enjoy.
Are you American? You can’t be. Damn.

Mary who?
Molly Huddle was also not running in cheating shoes like Shalane and Desi. Before the OT she needs to even the odds and have her shoe sponsor step up their game and make the same shoes Hasay, Cragg, Desi and others will be wearing at the OT. If she could wear Nike's cheating shoes she would have beat Flanagan.
Also don’t forget Kelly Taylor who ran a 2:24 at Grandmas marathon this year and was 5th last year after leading for a good part of it. Between her, Huddle, Linden, Cragg and Hasay (if they are healthy), Hall, Kieffer and Flanagan if she doesn’t retire, this will be a very competitive field. Would need to see Jorgensen do more before including her in the mix.

This is an average start for the marathon for someone with her track times, not a ‘great’ one.
You are being unnecessarily overly optimistic and mistaking realism for pessimism. Time will tell for Molly but has yet to show any sign of what you claim.
For the record: Stop spreading false information. It did not take Shalane 7 years to ‘master’ the marathon.
In her marathon debut in 2010, Flanagan finished in second place. It was the best finish for an American woman in 20 years at the New York City Marathon.

Not a new concept. She's the best active American distance runner by far.
People thought kiefer would be top American today....
You are smoking something.
It took shalane about 7 years to win her first marathon which was last year!
Molly ran third in here debut marathon! Is that not similar to shalane running second in her debut marathon? That’s a podium.
And she broke the half marathon record this year.
You are really on something bro.
