yep it is horrendous, and absolutely no access for parents/coaches must be in bleachers along the drag strip

Course update - even less friendly now.
Why don't they split the divisions and do it at multiple alternate sites? I'm sure there are places that hosted invites during the season that could handle one division each without having to change the date.
Without a second thought, I'd rather read of Jim's behind the scenes training and racing experiences than of postponed meets and high school state champ nonsense. Spivey's comments over the years are far and away what makes this site worth checking the MB.

For high school runners, coaches, families, etc., in Ohio, the latter is a much more pressing issue at this time. No offense to Mr. Spivey of course.
I just drove by the course a couple hours ago and it looked in good shape.
Unfortunately, there are 100-150 geese swimming in the parking lot!!
Why can't they pump the water out?

The goose poop would keep plugging up the pump.

Won't the parking lot still be a mess the following week?

Seems like a good idea, but that can piss people off too.
Some boys and girls teams can be in different divisions. What if you are the lone head coach for both teams? What if you are a parent and have a girl and a boy who both run?
Now, if they can't do anything else, this is still a possibility, but it isn't without making someone mad somewhere.

It very well might be a mess next week too. Wonder what they will do then? Could be a cancellation.

Splitting up seems like a bad idea. Part of the fun is having all those runners in one place. If you do it over 2 days then you need to have any workers devoting 2 days and that is going to be way harder than asking for 1 day.
Same if you split the event into 2 venues.
In regards to cancelling it, that would really be horrible. I would think they could come up with something to do since it appears parking is going to be the bigger issue.

I just looked at the weather for Hebron, OH. Might be no rain and then 11/6 (Tuesday)
Date Chance of rain
11/6 100%
11/7 10%
11/8 50%
11/9 60%

Plenty of dry parking at the 70/37 exit. Plan is to boat the spectators along the South Fork of the Licking River to National Trails. Should be able to get enough canoes from the liveries in Ohio.
Get a track time trial in over 2 miles.
It’s a great workout.
And shows the kids how fit they are for indoor and potentially outdoor.
I’ve done this myself (first time under 8:50) after a big road race was cancelled for weather; and had HS kids do this in a cancellation, their great times get them stoked.
It works.
Can you explain what you mean by your lactic acid was 173%.

Get an assistant coach. We would split squads when the girls team was national caliber and we were just good for Ohio. We ran just fine with the assistant.
If you are a parent, pick your favorite kid. You are used to choices like that when you have kids.
Really, there is no reason. NCAA had Nationals in Ohio about 10 years ago. Pretty sure that course still would work. If not, splitting into three sites should not be that hard, and should be a realistic contingency.
You "need" three timing systems, or not. We didn't have timing systems. Just an official writing down times. It shouldn't be that hard to get three timing systems anyway. There are so many race directors around the state that finding two willing to open their afternoons would be a piece of cake.
The guy that says it is all about making money is the only one making sense to me.
If they split the divisions up, how would I get my 9 miles in watching the 6 races running to the beginning of the 1/4 mile track and around because they won't put a crossway on the north side of the grandstands?
Aside from the parking, National Trails could have a great fan and runner friendly course but the powers that be are too stubborn to make the changes.
Problems
1. Can't hear the start from the grandstand.
2. Hairpin turn on track very early in the race.(seen multiple runners trip)
3. Fans have to sprint to turn to see race and continue to other side
4. Runners disappear for a half mile late in race through woods
5. Fans have to run clear back near the start to see them come out of the woods
6. Fans prohibited from being close to runners last mile+ of race
Solutions and benefits
1. Start race near track and run east instead of west.
2. All fans could see and hear start.
3. Go through the woods earlier in the race where fans can't be
4. Runners more spread out and easier to pick out when running by stands
5. Runners spread out more for hairpin turn.
6. Have roped crosswalk on north end of track so fans can get from east side to west side.
7. When runners leave west field and cross track, they run east in front of trees
and make a loop coming back along the ropes where everybody can cheer for them.
8. Same long stretch finish in front of stands.
Basically they would be using mostly the same course, but running it a different way. This and providing a crossway are EXTREMELY easy changes to make and would turn a poor setup into a very good one.

You're not very bright, Flagstaff. D2 on Friday, D1 and D3 on Sat, three different venues. No school is more than one div off, so this would solve the very few schools that are split. I coached a split school (D2 & D3) and it's not a big deal. Also, if the sites were all centrally located, there wouldn't be be much travel between sites.
Parking.
Duh.
Freeking duh.
