The disparity between good and bad regions is embarrassing. There will be many good teams left out of the NCAA meet and a few not-so-good teams incredibly making it in with an auto qualifier!
Number of men's teams from each region currently ranked or with votes:
Mountain - 9!!
West - 8
Great Lakes - 6
Southeast - 4
Midwest - 3
Mid Atlantic - 3 (#1 team is only ranked 25th!)
South - 2 (#2 is ranked 30th)
South Central - 2 (only one is top 30!)
Northeast - 2 (only one is top 30!)
**Remember: theoretically the two auto spots shouldn't really be going to a team outside the top 18 so auto spots going to MULTIPLE non-ranked, votes-only teams is ridiculous.
So what's the solution? The best regions are still on the west side of the country. If we went with a 2-region system like track, where would the line be? Surely we'd have to move it west a bit from where it is for track. Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc., need to move east and the South-central needs to be in the west. OR is there a 4-region system or a system based on the new CCRI that would work better?
