I keep hearing about these time bonus payments, but no links.

WTF! Did he dip under 2:04:00 or did he throw away $100K celebrating too early?
Yeah that was strange. Kiptum’s face after crossing was disturbing. Kipserem ran that like the veteran he is otherwise.
"Fat Joe" Pineda, the Spanish manager of dibaba souileman, and mikhou was right there at the finish to towel off his new prize pupil, Senor Kiptum.

Wow, these guys really just run... no thinking involved. But how does 100k not cross your mind and make you sprint for the finish.
That whole sequence over the last K was very strange. Kiptum makes a move then slows almost to a crawl and Kipserem flashes by. Then Kipserem was clearly not pushing to go under 2:04 as he celebrated the last 100 meters or so. Great race, but strange ending.
They were both looking at their watches repeatedly those last kilometers. They HAD to know what was at stake. Bizarre!
holy shoot check out the age group payments
http://www.adnocabudhabimarathon.com/prize-money/
500,000 for 31 to 40
500,000 for 41 to 50
500,000 for 51 to 60
500,000 for 61+
Think of how much prize money was given out... now think of how many spectators you saw the entire live steam.
....and now, the Ethiopian women's leader grabs a water bottle & cant get the cap off. Resorting to using her teeth!

Their agent(s) have to be losing their mind. In one aspect happy, but still losing their mind.

Completely agree. Bizarre sequence of events.
On a different note, I think the Tokyo Olympic marathon is going to be the most interesting race we'll experience in years. A stark contrast from Rio. The Japanese are the strongest they've been in a while, and Kenya outside of Kipchoge, is developing a new crop of these faces on the scene that created an interesting race today. Throw in Mo Farah, the potential for a comeback from Bekele and whatever Ethiopia puts together, and we could be looking at some interesting tactics in Tokyo.

That's in sheckels.
Ignoring the mythical time bonuses, they may have come to an agreement if there was just the two them, which there was, to pool the 1st place $100 and 2nd place $25k and split it 50/50, wouldn't be the first time.

Please, please stop with the Bekele comeback business. The hype only tears my heart apart further when he shows up straight from the pizza buffet and dnf's. Agree with everything else.
