Yes, founding Comrades sets Newton apart! Also a long career, and a globetrotter.

Def up there as some of the greats in sport. They're not done yet, awesome to see Rob running strong again!
Browning def still has some strong years left. He's legit!
Anything flat - Yiannis
Anything in the mountains - Killian
After 2020 it would be nice to see Bekele destroy these ultra records
Again, it’s easy to find a course profile of Spartathlon & marvel at Kouros’ pace on the hills & trails. His only obvious weakness is cold weather (bested by Kruglikov in a snowstorm in Tasmania).
They grow there own trees, don't they? wrote:

Nope he won't.
It's funny how some of these ultrarunning clueless letsrun posters think that top marathon runners will do something on longer distances.

Not sure why you think Jeff Browning would be a GOAT. His fastest time at WSER for example is only 55th of the top 100 fastest times. He is not even close to Krar, his fastest time is still over an hour slower than Rob's slowest.
No 2:03 ultramarathoner anytime soon wrote:

I agree. The same reason they won't be smashing the marathon in a Disney suit WR. Why would they bother.

It's incredibly refreshing to see someone with a clue post, especially concerning ultras, and especially with reference to Kouros.

No marathoner at anywhere near Bekele's level will ever move up to the ultras. It has zero prestige and no money.

Jesse Riley has no clue about nothing.
Yiannis Kouros, of course. His world records:
Distance
100 miles Road 11h 46min 37s
1000 km Track 5d 16h 17min 00s
1000 km Road 5d 20h 13min 40s
1000 miles Road 10d 10h 30min 36s
Time races
12 h Road 162.543 km
24 h Road 290.221 km
24 h Track 303.506 km
48 h Road 433.095 km
48 h Track 473.797 km
6 days Road 1028.370 km
6 days Track 1038.851 km
The GOAT will be Camille.
If not her, it will be another woman in the future there's a clear improvement with women and degradation with men as the duration increases. I don't know if that mark is at 24-48 hours or days but there's no reason to think the trend will equalize.
It is Camille

This, and not even close.
Nope. Yiannis Kouros and it’s not even close
Actually, the changes in the Spartathlon are a complex issue.
The biggest change has been that Kouros was a real pioneer on the Sangas Pass trail section. It was never part of such an event; the trail hadn’t been cleared by the large numbers of runners who’ve done it now; and know one knew the proper pace (and they still haven’t matched the pace of Kouros).
Organizing the race has become streamlined of course by repetition.
And other runners have a lot more company/pacers. Kouros had none. They also are well-sponsored pros in some cases. Kouros was still an unknown amateur the first time, doing menial labor.
It’s really misguided to compare Sangas Pass now to what it was then. Now white-collar runners who work in air-conditioned comfort (if they work at all) enter the race.
Hard to say...
If we also consider his tremendous contributions to running and athletics, Arthur Newton is hands down the greatest.
In terms of performance, Kouros is definitely in a league of his own.
Jurek and Trason cast some very long shadows and their impact on the sport is undeniable.
Kilian has changed the face of mountain athletics, and ultra distance is unquestionably a part of that.
Ultra distance is quite diverse in terms of challenges and the personalities who compete so it’s quite difficult to make direct comparisons.
