A couple hounddog thoughts:

1. The New York Times story is another example of them wanting there to be a story and making it a story . The girl has broad hips , big shoulders and a fairly large head but she is not fat . I bet her body fat percentage is no higher than any of the other top 10 women . But the big girl competing is a feel good story .It reminds me of when the NYT wrote about Alexi Pappas ‘s wedding and how she was an acclaimed author and film maker . They don’t say Daphne Schippers is fat and neither is Allie Kieffer .

2. That Chavez guy has the most annoying laugh . It is kind of the laugh the junior high dweeb would make if he landed a date with a high school cheerleader, nervous and non-confrontational .

3. I listened to the podcast interview and had the impression she really was intelligent and had her stuff together until .......

4. Hitler !!!! The tape isn’t clear but I thought I heard her say she was really into Hitler. Her comment about hanging out with him at the Falcons Nest was just plain creepy . Real strange vibe about her Hitler comments including the Hitler Cross .

Apologies for getting that wrong, you're not a misogynist, just a moran. Magazines and podcasters come to her, that's how interviews happen. Then they ask her about it and she replies. All so asterisky.

Yes, actually.

I get the sense that for as much Allie spouts body positivity and talks about how comfortable she is with herself, I think her outspokenness is probably her attempt to mask the body image struggles she still has, whether or not she still underfuels. Kind of an overcompensation/the lady doth protest too much kinda thing. I hope she sorts it out. She went from an unknown to one of the more famous runners out there overnight -- that has to do a number on you.

On the other hand, she could just be shrewd and realize that this topic is her calling card/niche and is paying some bills, so she keeps talking about it. But I'm inclined to go with my first hunch, it all feels pretty transparent.

Not exactly the same thing, but it feels similar in a way to how a lot of anorexic or eating disordered people will be obsessed with food/nutrition/cooking (thinking of a friend's college teammate who had a serious ED but was studying nutrition). Or how when I was in college I struggled with disordered eating and body image and managed to shoehorn my sick interest in eating disorders into various course projects.

Also yes, that post from Steph Bruce feels very pointed. I feel like she's been trying on a "harder" image lately, I've always been a fan of hers but it seems a bit incongruous.

its interesting that she keeps talking about how happy she is about her body and weight. when she isnt big by any means people might think its projection and she really isnt happy about her weight.

And why do you think three different magazines decided to call Allie, and not some other runner? Do you really think they all independently decided to run features on her this week? Or do you think some marketing person worked hard to get those writers or editors to see that Allie would make a good story?

Steph Bruce has a blog post about her struggle with weight where she literally says "Feeling strong in workouts and racing well are better indicators than a # on the scale." Isn't that......basically......telling people to aim for #strongnotskinny? It's also a post about losing her period when she cut calories too quickly in order to lose weight...

I can understand that Steph and Kellyn Taylor don't want people to think that skinny means not strong, but it's pretty clear that's not what Allie is saying here. Their comments strike me as totally misdirected. They say that Allie is wrong about the running world's obsession with weight, but I don't think either of them can possibly actually believe that. There is a pretty pervasive belief that lighter = faster (even Shalane has talked about trying to get to racing weight being her least favorite part of the job) and it seems crazy to deny that for the sake of lashing out at Allie.

No, it is clear. That's what Allie is saying. Perfect weather for Sunday, about as good as you could get. Allie has been flying off too much with her mouth. No sub 2:30, no way.

I never noticed it before hearing that Allie is interested in Hitler, but now I can't unsee multiple nazi symbols throughout her IG feed. They're really clever and subtle and she often sprinkles in ironic un-nazi hashtags to throw off the casual observer.
