Getting excited over a 2:09 marathon is like having an 8-8 record in the NFL. It's average and nobody will remember you 2 years from now. Maybe I just have higher standards.
It's like those guys from obscure countries who qualify for the Olympics with an 11.50 second 100m time.

You can win the Olympics or WC with a 2:09.

Does the Canadian record mean nothing? Canada has had some good distance runners, it is most certainly not the same as an 11.5 100m guy from some obscure country.
2:09 is a hobby jogger time. Any hobby jogger can run that once they've learned to BQ. When he runs sub 2, then we'll talk.
Let me know when he runs sub 2:04. You guys are brutal.

I have been here for years and I don't remember a single post that was serious and plausibly from such an athlete.
There was a post (ONE post) from someone claiming to be Craig Virgin but sadly he hasn't broken 2.10 anyway so doesn't matter if he was real or not.
Bill Rodgers and Benji Durden post here. I think Ron Tabb does sometimes. Craig Virgin posts at length and has a verified name.
Dick Beardsley(2:08) posts here under Beardsley and SteveJones(2:07) used to post as jonesy. Greg Meyer(2:09) used to post as Meyer. Bob Hodge(2:10) used to post here under Hodgie-san.
Then you have a load of guys from 2:10- 2:15 such as Brian Sell, Tom Fleming, Malmo, Norman Spiney and on and on and on. Many don't post here anymore though and besides Malmo, I haven't seen a post from any of the others in 3 to 4 years and 15 years for some. Mainly because idiots here used to always troll them or abuse them when they did post. I believe all these posters and this forum had a lot to do with the resurgence of distance running post 90's and has long lost it's way as a useful platform for training discussion. It's now full of people who should be doing the listening but in reality, are the ones shouting the loudest.

How could you possibly mention a 2:09 marathon and an 11.50 100 in the same sentence? Not that you can make any fair comparison, but in terms of being elite, a 2:09 is probably as good as 10.0x, if not better.
You realize Fleming passed last year, right?
Only after he gets Alberto credit for building the base that lead to that Canadian record .

So, is it safe for me to go back on @letsrundotcom again?
Well, you're about 20 seconds/mile off the world lead this year, like a 13:50 5K or a 4:10 mile. So better than Katelyn Tuohy, but not as fast as Brodey Hasty.
Just kidding. Nice job, Cam!
As a 2:09 guy he is the around the 874th fastest marathoner all-time, good for years like 1971-4, but if he does a Turkey Trot next month and waggles his junk at the finish yelling "GOBBLE GOBBLE M#THERF#CKERS!" He will go down as a co-legend in LRC history.

Please do this please Cam
Don't forget Ken Martin, 2:09:38

No Canadian calls it “the leaf and stripes” lolol.

No.
Just no.
There have been over 2000 sub-2:09:59s.
No Cam it’s not safe. Runners are nasty people pretending to be “average joe” nice guys.

Yup. Just ask Gwen Jorgensen.
I would love to hear details about his training leading up to this race. What went right, what went wrong, what would he do different if anything? What his thoughts are on the most important type of training (long run, repeats, 20x400, crossfit)?

Of course. I am sure he needs to be reminded about how he is 7 min off the world record, how he must be a doper because he ran at NOP, and hear about how Trump pwned Trudeau in the trade talks.
Almost 8 minutes, pal.
