Gwalk - quit being foolish. The afflicted neighborhoods in Chicago - the South and West sides - have depressingly high murder rates. Those neighborhoods on the problem, not Streeterville.
The real problem here is under incarceration, even though I believe we generally over incarcerate in this country.
Most of the murderers in Chicago have a record which speaks to violence. They should not be on the streets. So the real question becomes what happens if Chicago truly enforces the gun laws in the South and West sides (most of the perps cannot legally own guns)? The incarceration rates in these neighborhoods would zoom, giving rise to really challenging questions about how many we are incarcerating (because if we are serious about gun control we would have to put the unlawful owners away for extended periods of time).
I am not a gun guy so the gun control thing isn't an issue for me . But if you want guns out of the hands of violent criminals, and really mean it, well, be careful what you ask for.
This guy in Utah should have never been on the streets. We have challenges in keeping the right people off the street. There is the rub.
