Large running companies don't just throw around millions on pro runners. They do their homework and they aren't stupid. ROI doesn't make sense for those kinds of numbers. She won't generate that level of sales, brand loyalty, etc. She's making MAX $200k per year
I won't pretend to know anything about her contract, but I do know marketing and I'm pretty certain her contract is substantially more than what you think. Alan Webb got $250k nearly 2 decades ago. If rumors are even partially correct, she was offered half-million coming out of high school. Noah Lyles earned over 'estimated' $200K in his first year and nearly doubled that last year. Albeit, Lyles made a lot of his money from appearance fees, incentives and prizes. An exact quote from Lyles, "Syd is going to break the bank". I assume he meant she is going to make way more than him. Btw, I know the Lyles family. Usain Bolt is probably the closest comparison and I think he got $750 with incentives his first year. What do you think is the value of an athlete who can break a WR in her first year and look good wearing a NB kit. I would not be surprised if she got $1 million or close to it.

Fine. Maybe I was off. $1-$3 mill just sounds very high. We will see, if numbers come out
Hold up, son. This is LetsRun. You are not allowed to change your point of view. You're supposed to dig in and start flinging ad hominems at each other.
Is she engaged? Big ring on index finger
I know a lot of people here don’t know much about dating, women, etc., but engagement rings don’t typically go on an index finger.
Looking forward to seeing her in the orange booty-shorts.
Jesus Christ, if her 1.72537459943 million was spread out and allocated among the dozen-or-so runners just underneath her, this sport would be much better off.
I'm interested in who will coach her and where she will be training.

Disagreed.
You're definitely incorrect on that.
New Balance is worth more than that. The CEOs net worth alone was reported at 6.3 billion in 2018.
New Balance is the number one distance show in the world.
They saw an opportunity to open up a bigger market opportunity in track and field so they invested in Sydney. That's not a stupid move if you believe that athlete will win the biggest multi sport event on the planet at the Olympics in 2020 and/or break the world record.

Think like a shoe company. Sydney McLaughlin is paid to be a model. Shoe companies sell running gear head to toe. Athletes/models like McLaughlin have male and female followers. Females want to be McLaughlin. Males want to be with McLaughlin. Ford Motor Company is a big advertiser during NFL games. Is it Ford's responsibility to promote football? Don't act like shoe companies are supposed to be friends of runners.
