Peaked too soon. Ran this race too close to the marathon date.

Just curious, in what way?
Anyone look at the weather charts? Rain, wind, and cold? If so could be a Boston 18' We know how Desi races in poor condition. With Allie being from NYC I've got to think she's run through poor conditions...

was the course "out and back" or "point to point"?
Ran the race yesterday, course was out and back with the finish being up a hill just behind the start. I thought the course was enjoyable but definitely not a course where an elite would PR, significantly slower than the old NYC Half course. If this really was a workout for Allie, then this was quite a hard workout.
In every way that Scorpion_Runner dumps on Gwen, Allie is opposite. She's been grinding for a long time Overcome injuries and persisted Very Humble, focuses on herself and spreading a good message Put in her dues in HS, College, Local Running Scene, Pro Levels Came in 2nd last year in NYC and barely got a deal with Oiselle Gwen calls Jerry and says she wants to win Gold in 2020 and all of a sudden she's on the BTC and signed by Nike.

This should be called "the ben true effect" or something similar.
Leave it to the Letsrun crowd to pick some newish-on-the-scene or inconsistent runner who runs a 1:11 to be top American at a major marathon.
It'd be great and everything guys, but be sensible. She's not top caliber as much as you want her to be.
Nice try. Her results would say otherwise:
Indoor Track Marathon 2016 - 1st in 2:44 (world record at the time)
Outdoor 10K Championships - Not sure about place but ran 32:09
New York Marathon 2017 - 5th (2nd American) in 2:29
Doha 1/2 Marathon 2018 - 1st in 1:10:40
10K National Road Championship 2018 - 4th in 32:52
20K National Road Championship 2018 - 2nd in 1:09:20
Staten Island half Marathon 2018 - 1st in 1:10
Look at those times. I don't think you're being objective here.
Also, check out the list of entrants for women's elite and let us know if you feel the same. Huddle, Linden, Kipyego, Bruce, Flanagan (who knows with her though)
I hope she does well...

Yep - all true!
I ran the race. Brad was meters before a water station in a quiet section of the course next to the highway.
I passed her on the out and back at two places and she was cruising. Who cares if it was a training run or a hard effort, in the end isn't she training for the NYC marathon? She killed it, beating 2nd place by 4.5 mins and took the course record.
3 weeks is plenty of time to recover. She has my vote for top female american.

Yikes. Another crash-and-burn in the offing?
You got it.
She is certainly more fit than the winner at Rock and Roll Philly. The female there ran a minute slower and was forced to walk.

That’s because she has an Olympic gold medal. If Allie wants to be signed by Nike she could win and Olympic gold medal.
And you don’t think Gwen worked for years and overcame injuries to get to that point?
I like them both but it’s a bit of a silly comparison. They took different paths so what
Brad did not fly there... he was in Chicago and posted multiple pictures - quite obnoxiously on his cross country drive.
This was not a workout for Allie. She pushed way too hard for a workout effort. Shocking to see her without a male pacer. Saw her multiple times in Boulder, always with a dude no other women.

She doesn't strike me as humble at all. Quite the opposite actually. Her posts on social media show a reckless adult, with no life plans or gratitude to those who have helped her. Lets see how long this pro runner gig gets her. Gwen has been a pillar in sport for years. Actually has a family, husband, brand that people can aspire to be like.

So you're saying that a hard race has no training benefit at all?
It's ťhe difference between "training through a race" and "peaking for a race".
Everyone on LRC already knows this but I'll repeat it to feed the trolls: When you race in the middle of training you give it a full effort, 100%, but it will never be as fast as when you peak for a race.

True, she has all the appearance of Peter Pan-ism with strong East Coast narcissism underpinnings. Finding her best success built like a fireplug is cool, but her story is simply a sideshow. Then again, so is Gwen's.

Brad is no dummy. It wasn't a workout. Brad knows that it'll be on social media, hence him saying "perfect perfect, great ***Workout***"...so she's not really going all out:):):)
Yeah, I've been running long enough to see "that" look on her face, she was working hard. Why some of you don't understand that amazes me. 2:29:18 at NYC.
