It takes a few swings at the bat before you get a home run.
Bill Rodgers took six marathons.
1973 Boston Marathon (Did not Finish)(DNF)
1973 Bay State Marathon (2:28:12) 1st Course Record (CR)
1974 Boston (2:19:34) 14th
1974 New York City Marathon (NYC) (2:36:00) 5th
1974 Philadelphia Marathon (2:21:57) 1st CR
1975 Boston (2:09:55) 1st American Record (AR)
Same thing with Yuki Kawauchi
2009 Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon Oita, Japan 20th Marathon 2:19:26
2009 Tokyo Marathon Tokyo, Japan 19th Marathon 2:18:18
2009 Fukuoka International Marathon Fukuoka, Japan 13th Marathon 2:17:33
2010 Tokyo Marathon Tokyo, Japan 4th Marathon 2:12:36
2010 Fukuoka International Marathon Fukuoka, Japan 10th Marathon 2:17:56
2011 Tokyo Marathon Tokyo, Japan 3rd Marathon 2:08:37
He and Walmsley will take out the first 5K in the 2020 Oly Trials in 13:56.

"Is 2:10 worth it"
Er yes. It makes the Olympics for starters.
Also there are a load of competitions without Kenyans and dopers that he could clean up in.
You gonna tell every soccer player that isn't Ronaldo or Messi that it's not worth it unless they can bridge that gap?
And don't give me that "money" excuse. Capitalism is failing exactly because people are chasing the money instead of their dreams
In 2018 as it was in 2000. 7 years before Stinson was born, Phil Coppess ran 2:10 while working a factory job as a single dad. Stinson, with his superior, proven talent level and as a full-time athlete, has no good reason why he isn't faster than that at the marathon yet.

He's essentially Nenow.
So you're saying he' Nenow now?
Cool to see him go for it, even if it cost him late. He has plenty of room for improvement, is a bright young talent. With more miles in his legs and a smarter racing strategy I bet he'll be fighting for a Olympic spot in 2020 and 2024.
I think he is an immature guy. Race tactics like yesterday's show how much maturation he still needs to go through before he can really break through and have a chance of being a world-class runner. And he is always posting videos of himself running on Instagram to Drake songs. I could say more but I think he still has a lot to learn. He seems very gung-ho and unwise.
guys, it was a 1st attempt, relax.. wrote:
It was his first marathon on a warm and humid day. He's young, and the marathon is an event to where you become more efficient in time, as long as your training and recovery is steady too. Way too many Monday AM QB's, find another hobby.
It was not ideal, but not too warm either. Multiple PRs and NRs were set. More importantly, it was not his first marathon. This is the second time he's gone out too fast and struggled the second half.
Needs to stop assuming the people that beat him dope and get on the sauce himself
The nearest barbershop?
Jesus guys!
He goes out fast because his body craves it.
Parker is one of the few guys that has a real chance at the 2 or 3 spot in 2020. The marathon isn't friendly, especially if you go out at 2:06 pace on a humid day when you're trying to run 2:09-high-2:11. He should head to Europe in the spring and get a legit mark instead of doing Boston and not knowing what kind of a weather day you might get and running on a non record eligible course. Rotterdam or London or Hamburg would serve him well. Run with the second or third group that's scheduled for 1:05-1:06 through halfway and he needs to do that from the gun.
Folks:
He had a bad race. It happens. Read Bill Rodger's books on his experiences. 4x champ of NYCM and Boston. But at the Olympics?
Choke.
He was ok with his accomplishments. We all should be.

aka = needs another coach
I was gonna make the barbershop comment, too! Seriously. Hair keeps us warm. Distance running raises body temp. It's better to keep temps down.
How much does a big nasty sweaty ponytail weigh? Who'd want to carry that for 26.2?
If you're that committed to the surfer style, Boulder Boy, why not just run in checkerboard Vans?

In the YouTube videos he was featured in they brag about how he has to run workouts too fast or his head isn’t in it.
wot
Clearly he needs to chill on the kombucha and microbrews. That stuff will make you want to adopt a dog and live in a one bedroom apartment like my Boulder Bros Tanner and Caleb. And what kind of man calls himself a boulderite and doesn't have a beard-man bun combo? I smell a poser. TTYL BoCo.

This genuinely made me laugh. The kombucha and microbrews lol, if he ever starts hashtagging #veganathlete, it's game over..
I expect he will go home and have a bit of a rest
