One of the Pings is a good bet to win Griak this year with Tierney winning the JV race with a better time. That would be rather awkward.

It's possible.
Recall though that Lauren beat Tierney in the 3200 at State last Spring, and that both Grace & Lauren beat Tierney in the 1600.
At State XC last Fall, Tierney was passed around the 1 mile mark by Grace, which is why Grace didn't know that Tierney had dropped out until Lauren (who had been running in 3rd place at the time) told Grace at the finish line that Tierney had dropped out.
Also, recall that Grace finished in 7th at Foot Locker Midwest last Fall, and Tierney finished in 13th. (8th-grade Lauren was still too young to run Foot Locker.)
This Spring, Tierney's fastest 1600 (so far) is 5:10, while Lauren has run a 4:50 (at Hamline Elite).
I'm as big of a fan of Tierney's as anyone, but she's got fierce competition when it comes to the Pings. When they all run head-to-head, the Pings (either one) are fully capable of beating her.
Yes, but Tierney wrecked her XC season by running the marathon so her times and DNFs after that are not really useful comparisons and this spring she is coming off an injury. But Lauren is indeed faster at 1600 in any case and also likely at 3200.
Last season pre-marathon Tierney finished 2nd to Covert on the tough Griak course in 17:50 with Lauren 4th in 18:15 and Grace 6th in 18:18. I think those are the best predictors of this year's times although any or all of the three could show significant improvement this year so you never know. That is why they run the race.

There seems to be a Minnesota middle school & high school Marathon problem. Going back to City of Lakes Marathon to Twin Cities Marathon, Minnesota XC kids have raced those Marathons, under performed in their late season October XC races and no surprise, unable to complete the following T&F season due to injury. Is this a Chicago area problem also? Are Chicagoland kids racing Chicago Marathon and ruining themselves?
Who else in Minnesota has done this?

And what do you wanna say? She was injured for most of this year, I'm happy that she was able to run and finish a half in a solid time. Hope she can continue to train through the summer, crush some JV races in Fall and then set some PRs in varsity track when she is finally allowed to compete for her new school.
She ran a marathon. Dumb decision that will permanently impact her.

Not trying to say anything, just reporting the event.
I myself don't have a problem with her running longer distances (although I know that some here do). (I know her, BTW......)

Wrong.

It sounds as if Wolfgram has transferred schools and was ineligible to run this spring for her high school BUT her coach OKd her running in a track meet the other day even though he was mistaken. She ran 11:00 for 3200 so she is recovering from her injury. She cannot run for the varsity in cross country next fall but she will apparently be permitted to run for the junior varsity. Methinks she will dominate the jv.
As expected, Tierney Wolfgram is destroying JV meets. Here she won a JV 4K by over 3 minutes:
https://sd.milesplit.com/meets/367065/results/662907/formatted#.XXjyCORYbcsTierney Wolfgram (16 year-old junior from Woodbury H.S. in Minnesota) is entered in the USA Marathon Olympics Trials on 02/29:
"Phoenix Rock and Roll Half Marathon
In the half marathon distance, Run N Fun staff member Tierney Wolfgram had an impressive morning, finishing 9th overall in a time of 1:16:55 in her tune-up before the 2020 Olympic Trials next month. Tierney, still in high school at Woodbury, finished in the top 10 amongst a strong field of women. Tierney will compete next month against the best marathoners in the country at the USA Marathon Olympic Trials."
Does Tierney intend to run high school xc and track competitively any more? Even collegiate xc and track? Or is she choosing to instead become a full time marathoner? Is she looking to go pro straight out of high school? Running in the Olympic Trials as a high schooler is pretty impressive and it makes sense that she thought this was the easiest route to do so, but it is a pretty risky move.
She ran a couple XC races in early September. In the second one she was one second off the course record while finishing with a broken tibia. She then came back to finish 23rd at FLMW but obviously not back up to full speed.. She has been training in Albuquerque (5000 feet) since the first of the year running 85 miles per week.

Ya, I think running the marathon too soon limits your speed development which hinders your overall potential.
An example is Jenny Spangler who ran 2:33 marathon at age 19 in the 80's. Ended up making the olympics with her 2:29 PR at age 31, but only 4 minute marathon improvement from 19 to 31 years of age? At a point she was probably limited by her speed. The 5k/10k times were never pushed down far enough to allow for a faster/smoother half marathon, to lead to a faster marathon.
so confused please explain wrote:

She's not going pro with a 2:40 PR.

Jenny is the only athlete to simultaneously hold both the U.S. U-20 and masters records for the marathon, with a Trials win halfway along. That is what I call staying power.
It was sad that she did not run at NXR 2019. Her or Morgan Gehl. Wolfgram ran in NXR 2018 but didn’t finish.
The Heartland region became weak on the boys side, and also now has gotten weaker on the girls side after the graduation of Covert and Schufelberger, departure of Pings, and Wolfgram’s absence.
