Totally insane. Cathy Schiro of the future?
Cannot wait to see how she recovers for the rest of Class A XC season.
To quote my response to another thread:
"Unleash the stupid haters."
So, yeah, I'll admit that leading the race for several miles wasn't a smart strategy, but, at 15 you're allowed a few mistakes. If she were Pre people would be comparing her to Pre.
She looks a lot more physically developed than the typical 15-year old. Great job--good luck to her!

Extremely solid! Her 5k PR is in the 16:40s too right? 17:32 is impressive for a 5k alone for a girl her age.
Only 4 minutes behind GWEN JORGENSEN in Chicago today too lol. Today has been an unusual day in the marathoning world.

Or another Alana Hadley...
Oh great, another teenage girl for letsrun to oddly and creepily obsess about.
Although I wouldn't suggest running a marathon at anytime for a 15 year old, male or female, at least its good to know that she has a 2:40 capability in her. She also appears to like running from the front. With that aerobic base I think she can pretty much devastate any HS field in her state.
17:35 is a ridiculous first spilt for her. Too bad she couldn't hold back a bit, but obviously she is tough. The HS record is 2:34 by Cathy Schiro, who went to two Olympics as Cathy O'Brien.
She's typically considered to be one of the top-10 ranked XC runners in the nation and her parents and coaches think doing a marathon mid-season makes sense. How many college coaches just crossed her off their recruiting list?

Can’t people just run for fun even if it’s not always best for their performances?

What makes you think running for some college is her number 1 goal?

Did she win any prize money?
6th place is $750. Don’t know if she accepted the money or not.

She also gets 500 for being first Minnesota
I remember that it was a “point of emphasis” that Molly Huddle won the USA 10k title 66 days after running Boston. 66 days from today is December 12th, which is about Footlocker/NXN time. Maybe she believes that she is good enough to not need 100% to win at conference & states, however it does not seem like a smart move if she wants to be able to run fast times in the post-season, and place well at one(or both) of the National meets. However, if I was a college coach, assuming that the marathon doesn’t end her competitive career like some on this forum suggest, it would be a plus in my book as she has the aerobic engine to be good at the 10k. Assuming she has a pro-worthy collegiate career, it would be a big plus if I was a shoe company or pro training group, as she could potentially be a great Marathoner.
It sounds as if Wolfgram has transferred schools and was ineligible to run this spring for her high school BUT her coach OKd her running in a track meet the other day even though he was mistaken. She ran 11:00 for 3200 so she is recovering from her injury. She cannot run for the varsity in cross country next fall but she will apparently be permitted to run for the junior varsity. Methinks she will dominate the jv.
I think we will never hear about her again until she pops up in a marthon. Many strange decisions for a national class runner.
"Incidentally, Wolfgram’s winning time of 11 minutes and 54-hundredth of a second ranks as one of the state’s top half-dozen times this spring. That would indicate the fracture in her left foot has nicely healed." -
Off the top of my head, Minnesota girls who have run faster 3200's this year include Lauren Ping (10:36), Grace Ping (10:52), Natasha Sortland (10:53), Grace Johnson (10:53), Molly Moening (10:54), Grace Dickel (10:56), and Ali Weimer (10:58). So there are at least seven who've run faster times than Tierney's 11:00, to date.
Tierney ran a 5:10 1600 yesterday in a JV meet, winning by 34+ seconds:
If she had a broken foot that 11:00 is with no training the last few months. Not too bad.
As for XC she should be eligible for NXN. Same situation as Easton Allred last year who ran JV and open races during the season and then qualified for NXN and finished 5th.

I don't know the reason(s) behind her transfer. In doing so, she moved from class 1A to class 2A.
In 1A, she faced running in the State meets (XC and Track) against the Ping sisters for the next two years.
in 2A, Emily Covert and Lauren Peterson are both graduating this year, so she wouldn't have to face them. Anna Fenske is likewise a sophomore though, so she and Tierney will be doing battle in the future.........at least once Tierney becomes varsity-eligible again.
Des Linden: "The entire sport" has changed since she first started running Boston.
