For real? I couldn’t find the elite list for the Twin City Marathon, but it seems kinda crazy.
Can confirm

Over or under 2:40?
This is crazy. Don't her parents realize that her uterus will fall out?
Hard fade to 2:57
Too many Minnesota middle school and high school xc runners race Twin Cities Marathon. This has been going on for years. I believe in late '70's it was called City of Lakes Marathon
What is so "infamous" about the Footlocker Cross Country Nationals?
My wife ran 2:50 at Gmas and was only a 17:00 runner.... this girl will run in the 2:40s...
Why would a top level high schooler ruin their season like this? Just a sophomore, so it’s not like it’s a high school bucket list.
Also Obsa Ali in the 10 mile. Should be interesting.
The real question is, if she wins prize money, will she accept it and give up NCAA eligibility? I’m curious what she’ll run.
Will a respectable program even want to throw her a scholarship after a stunt like this?
Scott Dagget of Bellevue HS WA, ran a 2:29 marathon his senior year in 1971 (still the WA state record for HS marathon), and went on to Oregon on a scholarship and ran 3:56 in 1974, and pushed Prefontaine in key workouts. The marathon is not a deal-breaker for young athletes.

Correct me if I am wrong, but accepting prize money as a sophomore doesnt make you ncaa ineligible 2 years later. Isn't there a 6 month window or something?
She can't take the $ and compete in the NCAA.
She is a national class runner who won't be able to recover in time for her conference meet unless she is running it at 7:30 pace.
What a stupid thing to do. Led through 10k. The parents must be clueless. What coach is going to want to deal with this

Not exactly true. The NCAA allows you to take money up to the cost of competing in the event. Provide enough documentation of training shoes purchase, racing shoes purchased, training gear, gas mileage to practice, etc... (expenses that most runners have) and you can keep up to that amount. I’ve heard of several college runners winning anywhere from $100-$500 at local road races and being able to keep it all.
2:38pace at 21 miles. Course is fast the rest of the way.
Why is she running a marathon in the middle of the XC season is what I want to know... seems legit crazy, especially to LEAD the race??? Did she go into it thinking she would beat the elites??? O__o
She finished in 2:40.03.
