Is it though? Maybe it's just cause I'm in another age group now but mma seemed far more popular around 2006-2010 or so. Ufc has been stale for years now.
Unless you mean in terms of the ability of the two guys fighting, in which case it definitely isn't.
2006-2010 is a different decade from the current decade.
After McGregor was ditch slapped by Diaz he just ain't all that anymore. Look for the vid on YouTube.

Ah. I took it as last 10 years. Could be i guess then. Too many divisions and events these days. The talent and hype is so dispersed. Also, hate to say it, the scricter drug testing definitely took a toll on the quality of fighters in the ufc. If someone had told me back when i was into it that bisping would become a champ one day id have laughed in their face. Guess he showed to be a rare clean fighter though, gotta credit him for that.
Conor gasses and passes in the 4th from the bear's endless offense. There will be blood
I hate McGregor and hope he gets choked out.
The drunk violent Irishman thing is a heel act but I can tell he's really like that. He needs to lose before he ends up a nasty old man getting thrown out of pubs every day and clubbed in the head by cops.

Sounds like you don't follow the sport. Mma is more popular in every metric these days and the athletes are far more talented and well-rounded.
I recommend you watch the card tomorrow, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
McGregor hasn't defended any title ever and is coming off a 2 yr coke fuel binge with the only thing of note was showing how good Mayweather was to be able to carry him through a fight for so long. This is just another payday for McGregor and there is no longer the same substance behind his bluster.
Having said that with rumours that Khabib is looking to get out of UFC and retire soon coupled with McGregors new multi fight probably has Dana White and WME IMG salivating to the point where I can't see them wanting anything but a Conor win to fill the coffers.
This fight has burned alot support though to and can see viewing figures for Conor's fights only going one way.
Like I said he was _itch slapped by Diaz, he ain't all that bad.
Many folks seem to think early KO for Mac (superior movement and striking) or it’s going to be a long ugly win for Khabib. I could see either scenario. Great matchup.

Conor had staph- as reported by Joe Rogan. Rogan's had it 2X, & said (in below video) the timeline of his staph to the fight- Conor would've been hugely effected. Even though most don't know this, Conor kept quiet. Then he knocked Nate down 3X & busted his face in the rematch.
- Stipe was KTFO by Struve.
- Spider age 28 tapped to 12-15 losing fighter Takase, then age 29 tapped to nobody Chonan.
- DJ lost to Pickett & Cruz.
- GSP got stopped by Serra & Hughes.
- Robert Whittaker lost to Court McGee & got KTFO by Wonderboy.
- TJ Dillashaw got TKO'd by Dodson.
- Nunes lost to Cat Zingano.
All UFC champs, who lost before winning the belt.

Can Connor maintain the distance and keep the fight standing?
Will be Khabib able to take Connor down without taking punishment?
I can see a 1 round K.O. or a mauling in the way but I hope for a few knocks down and a few rounds with Connor at the bottom to get to 200 bpm. Can't wait.

Not necessarily disagreeing, but how do you explain a journeyman like Bisping being a champ in the current era? He just suddenly got good after years of being B-level?

MMA was essentially unregulated for years with respect to steroids. Bisping was always very vocal about the fact that pretty much all fighters were using them and that he was clean. Eventually, the UFC had to implement much stricter testing to get sanctioned in a lot of cities. Soon as they did that, people were getting busted all over the place while Bisping all of a sudden became a top guy. Nothings for certain of course, he could be juiced as hell for all we know, but all signs point to him being clean imo.

Bisping either got really lucky, or the UFC made things "happen" because they wanted to push the sport in the UK. The fact that GSP could still walk through most weight classes shows that the competition isn't what it used to be. Even Nate Diaz picked McGregor apart in their first fight. It's hard to believe any of it anymore. There's too much money involved, and the WWE style antics have turned it into a circus. Only one thing is clear; Proper 12 is paint stripper.

Yeah antics and trash talk mean more than actual fights now. No way would a guy like McGregor have been so praised in the past. One of the problems with mma, is that as the sport developed, it got less entertaining. Wrestling, and safe trades on the feet took over, so the ufc shifted to other means of keeping people hyped. And yeah, having so many events definitely kills it. There aren't stacked cards like their used to be.
Yeah, I hate the WWE-like shtick. Talent and styles, not faux hatred, make for great fights. After all the over the top trashtalking, the Mayweather and McGregor fight sucked. Even if fighters did truly hate each other the results will still be the same.
