I'd say November. It's almost as dark as January. Rainy. A LOT of rain and gray days. Some days already real cold. A long winter ahead. Staring ahead at 3-6 crappy months depending where you live.
The holidays in November are less fun than other holidays. There is really little good about November. At least in February you can start counting weeks until better weather and it's getting lighter out every day. February is also shorter. Mardi Gras. Valentines day. Super Bowl. Way better holidays than thanksgiving.
What is the worst month of the year? I vote February.

February through November if you've gone from the Rockies to the hell that's south Texas.

Yes, February is the worst.
But at least it has the Super Bowl. -

If not for the holidays, you'd say it's December, when the days are ridiculously short and, in most places, the snowis messy slush. And since some of us actually dread the holidays, it's definitely Decemeber.
December is the worst for having short, dark days but, where I live anyway, February seems to have the most snow and is the hardest to month to get outside and run. I'm going to take the average and say January has the worst combination of darkness and snow making it the overall worst month. -
Worst month for me is January and I live in Romania where the seasnons are roughly equal 3/3/3/3 months of each
It's really difficult to run outside when u have blizzards 9 hour days temps below freezing all day all night sometimes and all the heavy clothes and boots really slow me down.
On the flipside the best month is April tied with October when the weather in Romania is enjoyable with the ideal temps in the morning (48-58F) not too rainy and sunny 13 hour days . The second worst months are December and February almost as cold as January with some snow and blizzards short days and lots of foggy days not enjoyable conditions. The summers in Romania are quite dry and hot with high temps of 90-105 F and lows of 66-78 F a few thunderstorms here and there sunny most of the time. I can run in the morning and the temps are not that unpleasant with 72-76 F and low humidity dew points rarely above 70 F -
February can be the worst month if there is deep snow all the time and night temps of -11 to 10 F with "high" temps of 15F-30F (2011-2012 winter with 28 consecutive days with temps below freezing all the time ) but that rarely happens where I live last time in 2012 the snow was 30 inches deep with snow drifts of 6-8 feet 😱😱😲
LET'S JUST SWIM THROUGH THIS CAR-BURRYING SNOW XD fun times
even the ice on sidewalks was 4 inches thick -
I'm an optimist. I celebrate the end of January by embracing February.

It's cold, dark, and depressing. The holidays are a distant memory. The hopes of the new year are dashed. The spring is still a long way off.
February is the worst. Thank goodness it's the shortest, too.
I live (and run outside only) in Buffalo, so there is a lot of competition, at least outside of summer.
Feb does have the advantage of being slightly less dark, and closer to the beginning of hope. Jan loses on both counts. March can be WAY too much like Feb, but still lighter...and still usually warmer. April is too much like March, May is too much like April.....and then sometime in June it's finally summer. And......2.5 months later, we're going the other way!
OK, Jan wins.
It is interesting to be reminded of places where summer is actually worse than winter. Fortunately, I've never lived in such places for less than a year. -

November is tied with February here in Michigan. Very depressing, dark, wet, and cold. Fall colors are gone. Thanksgiving is also a joke of a holiday. November is the beginning of the end. At least you can see the light in February and the days are getting longer.
Good point about Nov. I've always thought of it as the mirror image of March. Very similar weather, but without the hope....and in fact, as you say, just the opposite !! -
I agree that February is the worst.
December has the holiday season.
January has playoff football.
March brings spring.
You get the Super Bowl and the beginning of February but it’s generally a boring time for sports.
Valentines Day is thrown in there for something nice but depresses others.
It’s often the worst of winter.
It’s mostly 28 days that you just want to get through. -
November is pretty good.
Heart of the NFL season. The playoff plot thickens.
Good time for running and road races.
Thanksgiving is a welcome break and brings on the holiday spirit. -
November is great in NY. XC at its peak, the marathon, the city starts to dress for Thanksgiving and Christmas. January and February suck, cold, grey, and after a day or two the snow is ugly. At least in February schools are off for the week.

I vote for December because this year there was no snow on the ground so in addition to being cold it was really dark outside after about 4:30.

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain. -
I live in the DC area. The absolute worst month of the year is August. Mid May through mid September is awful due to consistently high humidity. July is the hottest month but August is the worst because it comes after 2.5 months of heat and humidity and it feels like it never ends. Jan Feb Mar are all great months comparatively

November even has that ritualized despair at the end, where everyone pretends to like their relatives and be happy and thankful -
February (I live in the northeast) Indoor racing, running on the treadmill and running on the snow/slush suck. It's still cold, you have midterm exams and the only holiday (valentine's day) isn't that great.
November would be 2nd worst, but at least there are XC races and minimal snow.
